  • Patent number: 5313024
Abstract: A coordinate reading system that allows the determination of coordinate values without scanning has a simplified tablet structure and increased coordinate calculation speed. A coordinate indicator contains a coil and generates an AC magnetic field by excitation signals received from an excitation signal generating circuit. Sense lines having unequal width (zigzag sense lines) and/or rectangular return sense lines are laid in the tablet to induce signals having amplitudes that correspond to positions of the coil on the tablet when the AC magnetic field is generated. A selecting circuit directs the induced signals sequentially to a signal processing circuit. The signal processing circuit generates envelope signals of the induced signals. A calculating circuit calculates the coordinate values from the envelope signals generated by the signal processing circuit.

  • Patent number: 5313321
Abstract: A liquid crystal light valve cell has two optically different states switchable therebetween by bias voltage in response to incident light. A ferroelectric liquid crystal layer is sandwiched by a pair of front and rear alignment layers to establish the two bistable states in the ferroelectric liquid crystal layer. A front electrode layer is disposed on the front alignment layer. An optically reflecting layer is disposed on the rear alignment layer. A photo-conductive layer is disposed on the reflecting layer and responsive to the incident light incident from the rear face of cell to increase its electroconductivity.

  • Patent number: 5310397
Abstract: A computerized numerical control automatic complex lathe has a main spindle for gripping and rotating a work to be machined. A first machining tool performs a main machining of the work. A turret tool rest has an outer peripheral surface for holding a set of secondary tools along the outer peripheral surface thereof. The turret tool rest is selectively indexable to bring a selected secondary machining tool into a position to effect a secondary machining of the work and is selectively movable relative to the work to enable the selected secondary machining tool to perform the secondary machining of the work. The turret tool rest further includes a plurality of tool holders for holding a plurality of secondary tools. A back spindle is disposable on a side of the work opposite the main spindle for holding a selected secondary machining tool selected from the plurality of secondary tools.

  • Patent number: 5311096
Abstract: A width-extensional mode quartz crystal resonator formed by etching from a quartz crystal plate which is cut along a plane defined in the O-xyz coordinate system of the quartz crystal lattice by rotating the original Z plane around the x axis by a rotation angle in the range of 23.degree.-28.degree.. The quartz crystal resonator has a thickness-to-width ratio R.sub.zx in the range of 0.45-0.65. A pair of exciting electrodes are disposed on the resonator along opposed side faces perpendicular to the widthwise direction. The width-extensional mode quartz crystal resonator may be etched from a quartz crystal plate to provide a small sized resonator. A width-extensional mode vibrational portion is supported at its lengthwise sides by a pair of first bridge portions extending from a first frame portion. A pair of second bridge portions extend from a second frame portion and support the first frame at central portions of its lengthwise sides.

  • Patent number: 5308424
Abstract: A multiaxial nonwoven fabric is disclosed which is comprised of a selected warp material and a multiplicity of selected continuous yarns assembled in a specified lay pattern and bonded on to the warp material. Each of the yarns is oriented in a scalene or right-angled triangle shape, and the resulting yarn assembly is built of intersections at least in warp, weft and oblique axes, whereby structural strength and dimensional stability are greatly improved. A method and an apparatus are also disclosed for producing the fabric.

  • Patent number: 5309523
Abstract: In a joint transform correlator utilizing a spatial optic modulator, depending on the light intensity of each correlation peak obtained from optical correlation processing between at least one reference image and at least one input image, the light intensity passing through each reference image corresponding to each correlation peak is substantially adjusted so as to constitute a feedback system. By such construction, when processing a relatively large number of input or reference images, the correlator can avoid failure of recognition due to the reduction of light intensity of the correlation peaks and can avoid erroneous recognition to enable fast pattern recognition.
