Patent number: 4010385Abstract: A multiplexing circuit includes a plurality of passive circuit networks having a multiphase clocking signal associated therewith to selectively enable transmission of information signals over a common conductor. Each passive circuit network is enabled during a distinct phase of the multiphase clocking signal to provide a distinct circuit path for transmission of information signals with each distinct path including the common conductor. The enabling of the passive circuit networks by the multiphase clocking signal allows time sharing of the common conductor.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 1976Date of Patent: March 1, 1977Assignee: Teletype CorporationInventor: William S. Patent number: 4010388Abstract: The output of a fast-acting ratioless logic circuit is monitored by a sensing device, and when one selected logic output is sensed, a voltage is applied to the output node to latch the output to that state. To effect rapid return to the other state, a switch is provided to deactivate the applied voltage when the output node is established at the other state. The latching is made permanent by the further application of a refresh clock which periodically pulses the output node whenever the one selected state is latched.Type: GrantFiled: February 18, 1976Date of Patent: March 1, 1977Assignee: Teletype CorporationInventor: Cesar E. Patent number: 4001884Abstract: A series of digital words are demultiplexed into two groups and recorded on parallel tracks of a magnetic tape. The digital information is phase encoded upon the two tape channels and during playback the magnetic flux reversals on each channel are separately detected. The peak level of the detected signal is sensed and a peak signal pulse generated corresponding to the occurrence of the peak of the detected signal. Means are additionally included for setting the minimum threshold of the incoming signal necessary to generate a signal pulse so as to provide a level of immunity to system noise. The peak signal pulses are decoded to reconstruct the original data signal and a clocking signal. The data from each of the channel decoders is clocked into respective channel shift registers and multiplexed into its original data word arrangement.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 1975Date of Patent: January 4, 1977Assignee: Teletype CorporationInventors: Wayne R. Herbst, Paul L. Mika

Patent number: 3994218Abstract: An elongated energy absorbing bumper assembly, particularly adapted for use in absorbing the kinetic energy induced print hammer forces produced in impact printers and the like, is comprised of an outer resilient body portion, and an axially disposed stabilizing rod. The stabilizing rod is employed to substantially minimize the troublesome "kneading" or stretching effects that have otherwise often been encountered heretofore with conventional one-piece elongated bumpers made out of materials exhibiting the requisite resiliency and viscous damping characteristics. Such detrimental effects have developed heretofore both during the assembly of the bumper in the hammer mechanism, and during use thereafter. As a result of the stabilizing rod minimizing dimensional changes in the outer resilient body portion of the bumper assembly along its axial length, the energy absorbing (or damping) characteristics thereof will permanently remain substantially uniform therealong.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1974Date of Patent: November 30, 1976Assignee: Teletype CorporationInventor: Arthur F. Patent number: 3982195Abstract: An incoming diphase signal is edge detected producing a train of pulses each pulse of which corresponds to a base-bit level transition or a mid-bit level transition. The mid-bit transition pulses are removed and the remaining base-bit transition pulses are used to control the frequency of a voltage controlled oscillator which clocks a shift register counter. Selected states of the counter are decoded to generate two regular pulse trains. Each pulse of the first pulse train occurs during the first half of a corresponding diphase base-bit time interval and the related pulse is used to selectively sample the diphase level. An exclusive NOR-gate compares this sampled level with the diphase level during the last half of the related diphase base bit time interval.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 1975Date of Patent: September 21, 1976Assignee: Teletype CorporationInventor: Kenneth W. Patent number: 3976990Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for displaying subscript and superscript characters on the screen of a cathode ray tube. The encoded characters are selectively read from a memory which also provides two extended level outputs relating to the subscript and superscript features. In response to the readout of a superscript character from memory, a superscript signal, at the related extended memory output, is fed to an amplifier which, in turn, drives a superscript coil positioned about the neck of the cathode ray tube. This superscript coil generates a flux which reacts with the flux generated by the tube's vertical deflection coil during readout of the selected character thereby raising the position of that character on the screen. Correspondingly, a subscript signal at the related extended memory output results in the generation of a magnetic flux which reacts the vertical deflection coil field during readout of the selected character thereby lowering the position of that character on the screen.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1974Date of Patent: August 24, 1976Assignee: Teletype CorporationInventor: Gary R. Patent number: 3973664Abstract: A clip constructed of resilient material slidably engages the door of a paper web drive tractor of a printer. The clip defines two reference edges which are spaced by an amount substantially equivalent to the distance between a type line reference rod and the print line of a print mechanism. The operator aligns a selected type row on the web with the reference rod and slides one reference edge adjacent a mark on the web. The web is moved until the mark is aligned with the other reference edge of the clip and the selected type row is thereby positioned on the print line.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 1975Date of Patent: August 10, 1976Assignee: Teletype CorporationInventor: Robert R. Patent number: 3960250Abstract: An improved decelerating mechanism of the dashpot type in which the piston normally leaves the cylinder on each operating cycle and has a sealing ring cantilevered in the direction of piston travel having a deep undercut whereby air pressure of the air compressed in front of the piston inside the cylinder biases the cantilevered sealing ring against the wall of the cylinder to accomplish effective sealing of the piston against uncontrolled air leakage. A projection on the front of the piston seals the air exit from the compression chamber during the last portion of piston travel in order to provide a final cushion for the moving dashpot piston.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 1975Date of Patent: June 1, 1976Assignee: Teletype CorporationInventor: Kenneth Walter Wiater

Patent number: 3961337Abstract: An ink supply system for an ink jet recorder wherein ink is emitted by a nozzle and impinges on a sheet of paper. An open-cell-foam-filled container supplies ink to a tube-shaped pump chamber which holds at least enough ink to print one page of copy. The tube is squeezed in such a manner as to deliver ink at a substantially constant pressure to the nozzle, which forms the jet. Ink emitted by the nozzle but not impinging on the paper is returned to the container. A check valve prevents ink from returning from the tube-shaped pump chamber to the foam-filled container except via the nozzle. Release of the squeezed tube draws ink from the foam-filled container into the tube-shaped pump chamber.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1974Date of Patent: June 1, 1976Assignee: Teletype CorporationInventors: Werner Jung, Kurt E. Patent number: 3958735Abstract: A drive shaft of an automatic printer engages tractors which, in turn, pull a paper web across a print mechanism. Located on the drive shaft is a drive shaft position cam which is fixed to the shaft and rotates therewith. Additionally, located upon the drive shaft for limited rotational movement thereon is a second cam. The shape of the second cam is similar to the shape of the first cam and formed integral with the second cam is a frictional surface engaged by the paper. During normal paper drive, the cams are out of registration and rotate in unison. In response to a paper jam condition, the first cam driven by the paper locks and the cams are forced into registration actuating a switch, the plunger of which rides on both of the cams. The switch signal thus serves to interrupt the paper drive mechanism in response to a paper jam condition.Type: GrantFiled: February 18, 1975Date of Patent: May 25, 1976Assignee: Teletype CorporationInventor: Robert R. Patent number: 3931610Abstract: Each of the inputs of an analog multiplexer are connected to a plurality of capacitive keyswitches and a reference capacitor. At the first multiplexer scan position, the reference capacitor is charged through a charging resistor and when a predetermined voltage is reached a threshold amplifier is caused to respond. The time period required to charge the reference capacitor is stored and compared with the time period required to charge each of the keyswitches. A control signal is generated in response to this comparison providing a signal representative of the capacitive value of the keyswitch in relation to the reference capacitor and thus the operative condition of the keyswitch.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 1973Date of Patent: January 6, 1976Assignee: Teletype CorporationInventors: Robert E.
