  • Patent number: 4476205
Abstract: A cadmium electrode for a rechargeable alkaline cell comprises a rigid substrate having particle-receiving recesses therein into and upon which are pressed a particulate mix of binder coated cadmium oxide particles and cadmium particles which constitute an active precharge anti-fading constituent of the mix. The binder coating may be a substantially insulating material, in which case the cadmium particles in various places are pressed into the substrate so that they penetrate through the binder coating to make direct contact with the cadmium oxide particles. The binder is most advantageously a curable butadiene polymer binder coating on the cadmium oxide particles preferably formed by heating an initial slurry of an emulsion of the binder and cadmium oxide particles to vaporize the liquid carrier and at least partially cure the binder material.

  • Patent number: 4473619
Abstract: An audio magnetic recording medium includes a magnetic material carrier backing and a layer of a magnetic material thereover comprising magnetic particles dispersed in a binder, the magnetic particles having a thin coating thereon of a rare earth-containing material, preferably samarium pentoxide. The amount of the rare earth-containing material in the recording medium is only a small percentage by weight of the coated magnetic particles so as not to adversely effect the erasability of the magnetic record to be recorded, but is of sufficient amount to improve the frequency response, signal to noise ratio, or channel separation characteristics thereof.

  • Patent number: 4470531
Abstract: An improved nailing machine including a reciprocatable plunger for sequentially severing and driving nails from a nailing strip, and a reciprocatable piston for advancing and retracting the plunger. The machine includes a unique reciprocatable control valve actuating and nail guide means which serves both to set a control trigger for activating the reciprocatable plunger, and to properly align a nail with a workpiece as the nail is driven into the workpiece, while at the same time maintaining the nailing strip in a fixed position to prevent contact between the driven nail and the next nail to be severed from the nailing strip. The machine further includes a magazine having retractable nailing strip advancing means which positively moves a nailing strip along the runway of the magazine, and which, in its retracted position, enables a nailing strip to be easily and readily inserted into or removed from the magazine of the machine.

  • Patent number: 4468571
Abstract: A standby AC electrical power system connected between a load device and the AC line voltage comprises a voltage responsive control circuit connected between the AC line voltage source and a DC to AC inverter circuit. The control circuit generates a continuously pulsating DC control voltage which has an envelope which responds to and follows but at a different rate the increase and decrease in the envelope of the output of a full wave rectifier fed by the AC line voltage. The control voltage remains above a given triggering level when the average value of the rectified output for the current half cycle involved stays above a given monitored level indicating that the average value of the current half cycle of the AC line voltage is above a given low level and drops to the triggering level when the average value of the current half cycle of the AC line voltage drops to the given low level.

  • Patent number: 4460887
Abstract: An improved electrical fuse comprises an oppositely open ended insulating housing in the form of a cylindrical sleeve having a fuse element disposed therein. A pair of cup-shaped end caps close the ends of the sleeve and are electrically and physically connected to the ends of said fuse element. An external lead is connected to each of the end caps and extends outwardly therefrom. A quantity of solder in each end cap is fused to make electrical contact between the end cap and the adjacent end of the fuse element. An adherent insulating coating layer is disposed over the sleeve, end caps and leads to cover, seal, and physically interconnect the exposed exterior surfaces of said sleeve, said pair of end cap means and a portion of each lead adjacent to said pair of end cap means.

  • Patent number: 4461034
Abstract: An automatic tuning receiver having an automatic tuning system which comprises an antenna input attenuator for attenuating antenna inputs and a sensitivity switching device, the sensitivity switching device having two positions, one controlling the attenuator to a high continuation condition for local station searching and alternatively to a low attenuation condition for distant station searches. In the high attenuation condition a switching means is further responsive to muting signals derived from the receiver so as to maintain the attenuator in a high attenuation condition during search, at the end of which time the search ceases, the receiver locks on the desired signal, and the disappearance of the muting signal causes the attenuator to revert to a low attenuation condition, thereby preserving an improved signal to noise condition in the receiver.
