  • Patent number: 4955295
Abstract: A system and method for controlling the sealing efficiency and recycle rate in a fluidized bed reactor in which air is introduced into two chambers found in a sealing vessel for receiving the separated solids from the separator. The air is introduced into two chambers in the sealing vessel in a direction opposite to that of the flow of the separated solids through the vessel. One of the chambers is located below the separator dipleg and in alignment therewith and the other chamber surrounds the first chambers. The air flow through each path can be separately adjusted as necessary.

  • Patent number: 4947804
Abstract: A fluidized bed steam generation system and method in which an external heat exchanger is located adjacent a furnace section. A mixture of flue gases and entrained particulate materials from a fluidized bed in the furnace section are separated and the flue gases are passed to a heat recovery section and the separated particulate material back to the fluidized bed in the furnace section. Particulate material from the fluidized bed in the furnace section is circulated through the external heat exchanger to add heat to water, steam or a steam/water mixture before the material is passed back to the furnace section. Water is passed through the furnace section, the heat recovery section, and the external heat exchanger to convert the water to steam.

  • Patent number: 4915061
Abstract: A reactor in which a furnace section and a heat recovery section are formed in a vessel. A bed of solid particulate material including fuel is supported in furnace section and air is introduced into the bed at a velocity sufficient to fluidize same and support the combustion or gasification of the fuel. A mixture of air, the gaseous products of combustion, and the particulate material entrained by the air and the gaseous products of combustion are saturated with the particulate material and directed to the heat recovery section, and a plurality of channel beams are disposed in the heat recovery section for separating the particulate material from the mixture. A trough extends between the furnace section and the heat recovery section for receiving the separated particulate material from the channel beams, and the trough is connected to the furnace section for returning the separated particulate material back to the bed.

  • Patent number: 4911580
Abstract: An apparatus and method for raising and supporting the foundation or slab of a building, in which a lifting arm assembly engages the lower surface of the foundation or slab and is secured thereto. A piling assembly is disposed in a support sleeve adjacent the lifting assembly and is engaged by a clamping assembly. A hydraulic ram is connected between the clamping assembly and the lifting arm assembly in the expanded position of the ram so that when the ram is retracted, the piling is driven into the ground until it encounters a predetermined resistance. A drive plate is placed in operative relation to the piling assembly and over a pair of rods attached to the lifting arm assembly. The ram is further actuated after the predetermined resistance is encountered to raise the lifting arm assembly, the rods, and the foundation or slab a predetermined distance relative to the drive plate, after which the rods are secured to the piling assembly.

  • Patent number: RE33163
Abstract: A gas equalizer device for use in conjunction with a reciprocatory pump located downhole in a wellbore. The device of the present invention avoids a condition commonly known in the pumpjack art as "fluid pounding", which is brought about when compressible gases accumulate in the working chamber of the downhole pump. The gas equalizer device of the invention includes a pushrod having a marginal end reciprocatingly enclosed in a slidable manner within a housing which is mounted to the usual traveling valve cage of the downhole pump. The pushrod is alternately moved from an extended into a retracted position each upstroke and downstroke of the pump. The free terminal end of the pushrod is arranged to engage the ball check valve of the traveling valve assembly as the pump commences the downstroke. This unseats the ball, thereby allowing any accumulated gases to escape from the variable pump chamber.
