  • Patent number: 5853876
Abstract: An adhesive tape or an adhesive label each of which comprises a substrate including a biodegradable polymer layer and an adhesive layer provided on at least one surface of the substrate. The adhesive tape has a release agent layer formed on an opposite surface to the surface where the adhesive layer is provided, or has a release tape which is in contact with the adhesive layer, and the adhesive tape was wound up around a core for storage. The adhesive label has a release sheet which is in contact with the adhesive layer. In such biodegradable adhesive tape and biodegradable adhesive label, a biodegradable polymer is used as a material of the substrate, and therefore the tape and label do not disrupt the natural environment or do not largely disorganize the ecosystem in the soil even when discarded in the soil after use.

  • Patent number: 5853573
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the removal of total cyanide from aqueous solution. The method includes the steps of placing the aqueous solution into a reaction tank, adding lime, ferrous sulfate, and acid to the solution in the reaction tank and agitating the resultant mixture for a reaction time of about one hour. The agitated mixture is transferred from the reaction tank to a clarifier tank and polyelectrolyte solution is added to induce iron-cyanide complex precipitate coagulation. The apparatus includes a reaction tank to hold the aqueous solution and a lime slurry tank, ferrous sulfate tank and acid tank in flow communication with the reaction tank. A pH control assembly controls the flow of acid from the acid tank into the reaction tank and a reaction tank agitation assembly extends into the interior of the reaction tank. The clarifier feed conduit extends between the reaction tank and a clarifier tank.

  • Patent number: 5853692
Abstract: A process for manufacturing nickel chloride is disclosed which is used as the raw material for manufacturing Zn--Ni coated steel plates, for electroless Ni plating industries, for electronic components, and for a high purity chemical additive Ni powder. That is, the invention discloses a process for manufacturing high purity nickel chloride (NiCl.sub.2) by utilizing a waste nickel anode which is obtained from an electroplating factory of a steel manufacturing plant. The process for manufacturing high purity nickel chloride includes the steps of: pre-treating a waste nickel anode to remove impurities adhered on the surface thereof; working the pre-treated waste nickel anode so as to provide an increased specific surface area; putting the worked waste nickel anode into an aqueous hydrochloric acid solution of 10-35% so as for the equivalence ratios of Ni, HCl and NiCl.sub.2 to be 1.0 or more, and dissolving the worked waste nickel anode at a reaction temperature of 20.degree.-80 C.

  • Patent number: 5841116
Abstract: Bar code labels, each bearing a pre-identified insignia, each insignia corresponding to a unique owner, are affixed to the personal possessions of a number of owners. A set of owner identifiers are stored in a first location wherein each owner identifier corresponds to a unique owner. For each owner identifier stored, a set of identifying data is also stored. Each identifying data corresponds to one of the set of bar code labels. At a second location, remote from the first, identifying data corresponding to the identifying insignia on one of the labels is input by scanning the bar code. The input identifying data is transmitted to the first location and compared with one or more of the set of identifying data stored at the first location. If the input identifying data matches one of the set of identifying data, the owner identifier is retrieved and displayed.

  • Patent number: RE36019
Abstract: A roof control system for underground strata has an elongated bolt adapted for insertion into a hole bored into the underground strata. The bolt is securely anchored in the hole at a location where a significant length of the bolt remains between the opening of the borehole and the anchor. A significant length of the bolt is placed in tension by rotating the bolt at a predetermined torque, with a plate mounted on the bolt and located adjacent to the outer surface of the strata and a nut on the end of the bolt for engaging the plate. The friction between adjacent surfaces which rub against each other when the bolt is rotated is selectively adjusted so that the tension/torque ratio of the bolt is selected to match the desired level for a particular type of strata. A array of friction reducing washers with different contact surface areas are provided so that one can be selected for location between the nut and plate.
