  • Patent number: 7581660
Abstract: A liquid-metering device is disclosed, in particular, a pipetting device for aspirating and dispensing liquids. The device comprises a vessel which is at least partially filled with gas and has an opening through which liquid is received or discharged, a gas-pressure-changing device for changing the gas pressure in the vessel, a state-variable-detecting device for detecting at least one state variable of the gas in the vessel, and a control device which activates the gas-pressure-changing device as a function of the state variable detected by the state-variable-detecting device. The control device is a regulating device which, during a regulating time segment between liquid reception and liquid discharge, activates the gas-pressure-changing device as a function of the detected state variable such that the actual gas pressure in the vessel is kept essentially at a predetermined gas pressure.

  • Patent number: 7497439
Abstract: A gaming device and method directed to a primary game having chess pieces displayed in the primary game outcomes. After completion of the primary game, the chess pieces “move” according to chess movement rules to “capture” other chess pieces. Credits are awarded for each “capture”. Embodiments include activation of all chess pieces for play or activation of individual types of pieces based on player wagering.

  • Patent number: 7482305
Abstract: The invention is a liquid composition, and method of use, for a pre-rice-seed-germination herbicide for dry or drill seeded rice. The composition includes pendimethalin and pinolene. It is applied in a spray volume of about 18.9-75.7 L per ha (5-20 gal per acre) of rice. After applying the herbicide, the field is flush irrigated with water. The composition is not phytotoxic and significantly reduces the amount of weed germination.

  • Patent number: 7309503
Abstract: The invention includes convenient methods of preparing: (1) highly concentrated liquid bromine-containing biocidal solutions, (2) highly concentrated mixed halogen liquid bromine and chlorine-containing biocidal solutions, and (3) high-activity bromine-containing biocidal solids, all having excellent physical and chemical stability. One method yields solutions that have concentrations of bromine in excess of 18% as Br2 (8% as Cl2) in which the mole ratio of hydroxide ion to hydrogen ion source is at least 1.9:1. Another method employs elemental bromine in conjunction with a solid organic or inorganic halogenating agent to yield halogen solutions at concentrations greater than 22.9% as Br2 (10.2% as Cl2). This method can be performed under conditions that exceed the solubility of the active ingredient such that it crystallizes and is recovered as a hydrated or anhydrous salt in good yield.

  • Patent number: 7303832
Abstract: The invention includes a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) comprising at least one fuel cell assembly. The fuel cell assembly includes a membrane electrode assembly interposed between an anode separator and a cathode separator. The membrane electrode assembly comprises a proton exchange membrane interposed between an anode and a cathode, each electrode comprising an electrocatalyst. The anode and cathode separators contain the flow field features necessary to communicate the fuel and oxidant, respectively, to their respective electrodes. A heat transfer separator may be integrated into the fuel cell assembly. Each separator is made up of a series of conductive compression gaskets that distribute fuel, oxidant and heat transfer fluid throughout the fuel cell. Under mechanical load, the respective series of compression gaskets are consolidated into fuel cell separators with sufficient structural integrity to seal the PEMFC fluids.
