  • Patent number: 4675965
Abstract: In the manufacture of a pipe part from fibre-reinforced thermosetting resin, such as a T-piece, preformed pipe parts made of fibre-reinforced thermosetting resin are placed on a mandrel defining the inside shape of the pipe part, the external surface of the mandrel being partially covered. The space between the mandrel and the inside of the pre-formed pipe parts is sealed and the parts of the pre-formed pipe parts adjacent to the uncovered part of the mandrel are chamfered on the outside. Synthetic resin impregnated fibres are then applied to the uncovered part of the mandrel and to at least the chamfered parts of the preformed pipe parts placed on the mandrel, until the pipe part has reached the desired final shape, after which it is cured and the mandrel is removed from the finished pipe part.

  • Patent number: 4653595
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a hammer and follow block chain remote release device and method to eliminate the need of a human having to ride the pile driving leads until the follow block is separated from the hammer. This is attained by passing a chain through the follow block and over horns on the hammer. A remote release device is connected to one end of the chain and an elongated link secured to the other end of the chain is engaged with the release device and a remotely actuated coupling member is pulled to release the connection between the chain and release device to permit separation of the follow block from the hammer by passage of the chain through the follow block and over the horns on the hammer.

  • Patent number: 4635474
Abstract: A smooth cylinder is rotated about its vertically mounted axis with alternative provision for a horizontally mounted sphere affixed to its top. The superposition of the circulatory air flow thus created around the cylinder, and the fluid stream vector, results in a definitive and measurable lift via the Magnus effect. The orthogonal force thus generated totally identifies the horizontal component of the spatial fluid vector; and its vertical component can be determined from a similar effect on the sphere. The sensitivity of the device can be enhanced by increasing the rotation rate; and may be further augmented by employing a second similar device with its rotation in the opposite sense to that of the first. By this expedient, it is also possible to reduce the system to a purely deterministic system by the cancellation of the effects of drag and platform motion. In addition, the device is intrinsically resilient to the otherwise detrimental effects of rainfall, temperature and pressure variations.

  • Patent number: 4568456
Abstract: This disclosure is directed to a membrane filtration installation having a liquid inlet chamber and a liquid outlet chamber, each of which was a pipe plate and a number of support pipes between the pipe plates. The inner side of the support pipes structurally support a non-woven tube having an inner tubular membrane on its inner side. At each end the membranes with non-woven tubes are accommodated in openings in the pipe plates. Each membrane engages a sealing sleeve which is integral with a flange which cooperates with the pipe plate beside the openings. The flange is provided with a circumferential annular shoulder which clamps and sealingly engages the pipe plate and the lower edge of the wall of a liquid outlet or inlet chamber by means of a nut engaging a shoulder on the liquid chamber and which is screwed on the outer side of a pipe plate. Preferably the flange is provided with an annular rounded shoulder for engaging the lower edge of the liquid inlet or outlet chamber.

  • Patent number: 4566408
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to internal combustion engines of the kind comprising two working cylinders arranged in vertical side-by-side parallel relationship, there being two oppositely working pistons in each cylinder, and the movement of the four pistons being transmitted to a common drive shaft between the cylinders. The top pistons in each cylinder are connected to piston rods which in turn are secured to a crosshead and which crosshead has a pivotal connection for a connecting rod the other end of which is connected to drive a drive shaft. The lower or bottom two pistons are in like manner connected through a crosshead to the drive shaft. Fuel injection occurs at the mid-point of each cylinder between each of the two pistons in each cylinder. As to each cylinder intake air is ported in above the injector and exhaust air is ported out beneath the injector.
