  • Patent number: 6302428
Abstract: A snowboard step-in binding having a rotatable soleholder that can be moved between two limit positions and can be opened using an opening lever. In order to ensure a secure lock with the soleholder even with a layer of snow present, but prevent inadvertent opening, a dual-action lever with one arm designed as an opening lever and the other arm designed as a rotating lock is provided. This rotating lock is maintained by forcing two cam surfaces, which extend from a common apex and contain an intermediate rest surface, against a locking bolt by the force of a spring.

  • Patent number: 6290989
Abstract: The present invention describes a device for the controlled release of active compounds in the gastrointestinal tract with delayed pyloric passage, having a component expandable on contact with gastric juice, which is surrounded by a polymer covering which is permeable to gastric juice and active compounds. The device contains at least one active compound which is present in a multiparticulate preparation which releases the active compound into the gastric juice with a delay. Compared with conventional pharmaceutical forms with delayed pyloric passage, the release of active compound from a device according to the invention can be better controlled; likewise the device can be easily rolled or folded and can be introduced into capsules without problems.

  • Patent number: 6286988
Abstract: An extrusion head with a mixing device and an adjustable shear effect, for homogenizing, mixing and shearing the material conveyed to it in form of polyester melts, elastomers and other miscible viscous and paste materials. The extrusion head has a pair of toothed wheels arranged one over the other, with one wheel having a double helical gearing and the other having a pair of axially spaced oblique teeth with a center annular groove. The material supplied flows around one toothed wheel and fills its tooth gaps and those of the other toothed wheel. The material is taken back in the outer region of the one toothed wheel by the rotary movement, is axially crushed out by the other toothed wheel and conveyed into an outlet channel through the groove in the other toothed wheel. The mixing, homogenization and shearing of the material can be adjusted by the drive of the one toothed wheel, thus making it possible to obtain a high outlet temperature where the material is elastomers.

  • Patent number: 6283555
Abstract: A discharge breaking system and a discharge breaking method for breakage and decomposition of objects to be ruptured such as destruction of base rocks and breakage of stones into small pieces at building lands, breakage for finishing tunnels and destruction of concrete buildings. A discharge breaking system is configured to supply or discharge electric energy charged or accumulated in a capacitor between a pair of electrodes in a short time for abrupt vaporization of a breaking substance for transmitting a pressure, thereby breaking an object to be ruptured with an expansion force generated by the vaporization. The discharge breaking systems has a structure wherein an end portion of a sheath member which covers a pair of metal cores for composing a cable is cut off to expose ends of the metal cores, and the exposed ends of the metal cores are submerged in the breaking substance and used as electrodes.

  • Patent number: 6279477
Abstract: Supplying a predetermined amount of electric energy to a fine metal wire 4 in a short time causes the fine metal wire 4 to melt and evaporate. Following this phenomenon, a blasting substance 10 expands in volume, so that the evaporative expansion force resulting from the melting evaporation of the fine metal wire 4 is transmitted to and blasts a to-be-blasted object 5.

  • Patent number: 6273680
Abstract: Method and apparatus for converting the kinetic energy of a moving fluid stream into useful work by using a cascade of thin aero or hydro foils positioned therein. The foils may be provided with at least two degrees of freedom and adjacent foils move out of phase. The foils are subjected to fluid induced oscillations known as flutter. Barriers (3, 43) may be positioned upstream, above, or at sides of the apparatus for increasing efficiency by increasing the fluid velocity. A system of flywheels (17, 18) are used to increase inertia of the foils and are particularly useful with hydrofoils. A cascade of aero or hydro foils may be mechanically oscillated to transfer energy to a fluid.
