  • Patent number: 8634766
Abstract: A method of monitoring an element in wireless communication system is provided. An operational noise measurement is obtained by measuring a noise value outside of a bandwidth of a first device, but within a bandwidth of a second, subsequent device. The operational noise measurement is alternatively obtained by tuning an input band of the element to shift the input band partially or completely outside of a bandwidth of a first device to create an open band or by suppressing an input of the antenna and measuring noise within the open bandwidth of the element of the wireless communication network. A stored parameter is retrieved and compared to the measured operational noise. Alternatively, a leakage signal of the element may be received at a signal receiver and compared to a reference. The reference is a function of components of the wireless communication system in a leakage path of the leakage signal.

  • Patent number: 8630581
Abstract: A repeater and associated method of use includes at least one antenna element for communicating in one direction and at least one antenna element for communicating in another direction. A radio frequency uplink path and a radio frequency downlink path are coupled between the antennas. At least one of the radio frequency uplink path or the radio frequency downlink path includes an adaptive cancellation circuit. The adaptive cancellation circuit is configured to generate a cancellation signal without requiring an injected signal. The cancellation signal, when added to a radio frequency signal in the respective uplink and downlink paths, substantially reduces feedback signals present in the radio frequency signal.

  • Publication number: 20140011442
Abstract: A repeater system including bi-directional amplifier circuitry that is configured for repeating signals between at least one device and a first signal source. Receiver circuitry is coupled with the amplifier circuitry provides at least one signal associated with at least one of a device or the first signal source or a second signal source. Controller circuitry is configured for monitoring a parameter of a provided signal that is reflective of a property of a signal source or a device. The monitored parameter is used to make a determination of whether repeated signals associated with the first signal source will desensitize the operation of the second signal source. The controller circuitry is also operable for adjusting the power level of the signals that are repeated by the bi-directional amplifier circuitry based on the determination that repeated signals will desensitize the operation of the second signal source.

  • Patent number: 8594223
Abstract: A distributed antenna system having improved data transmission features incorporates endpoints of the system, which are coupled together by serial data link. At the endpoints, processing may occur utilizing processing circuitry to determine similarities between multiple signal streams. If the streams are similar, the data sent over the serial digital link is reduced by only sending one of the representative signals. In an alternative embodiment of the invention, the difference between the signals might be sent as well. Alternatively, all signals might be sent, but may be compressed with compression circuitry before the signals are transmitted over the serial link. At the endpoint of the system, the signals are reconstructed for further processing and transmission.

  • Patent number: 8595713
Abstract: The present invention relates to the operation and maintenance of radio base stations in mobile communication systems. An inventive radio base station, which can be upgraded remotely in a safe way. In one embodiment of the invention, the radio base station comprises a file system comprising different versions of files, so that an old version of a file can be reverted to should problems in the operation of the radio base station occur. In another embodiment of the invention, the radio base station comprises a back-up area in which a copy of the files of the file system are stored. • Publication number: 20130308693
Abstract: A calibration sub-system for calibrating a unit of a distributed antenna system is provided. The calibration sub-system includes a signal generator, a receiver, and a processor. The signal generator provides test signals to a communication path that are generated based on modification schemes for an in-phase signal component (“I component”) or a quadrature signal component (“Q component”). The receiver receives output signals generated from test signals. The processor determines output power values for an undesirable signal component of the output signals. Each output power value is a Taylor series function or a polynomial function of a respective modification scheme for the I or Q component of the respective test signal. The processor determines an optimal modification scheme for the I or Q component that minimizes an output power of the undesirable signal component. An output value of the function is minimized by having the optimal modification scheme as an input.

  • Patent number: 8571470
Abstract: An apparatus for repeating signals includes a receive antenna for receiving input signals, processing circuitry for processing the input signals to form repeated signals, and a transmit antenna for transmitting the repeated signals. The processing circuitry includes an adaptive digital filter configured to generate cancellation signals that are added to the input signals to cancel unwanted feedback signals from the input signals. A frequency shifting circuit adds a frequency shift to the input signals, after the addition of the cancellation signals, to form repeated signals that are frequency shifted from the input signals. A digital signal processor is coupled to the adaptive digital filter for digitally adapting the filter. The digital signal processor utilizes the frequency shift of the transmission signals to adapt the adaptive digital filter.
