    Abstract: This document describes techniques and systems of a radar system with an angle-finding process for sparse uniform arrays. The described radar system includes a processor and an antenna that can receive electromagnetic energy reflected by objects in the surrounding environment. The antenna includes a one-dimensional (1D) or two-dimensional (2D) sparse array. The processor can determine, using the received electromagnetic energy, a signal subspace associated with the objects that includes an invariance equation. Using an estimated solution to the invariance equation, the processor determines a solution to the invariance equation. The solution to the invariance equation is used to determine angular phases associated with the objects. The processor can then determine, using the angular phases, angles associated with the objects. In this way, the described angle-finding process enables the radar system with a sparse array to efficiently determine angles associated with objects without blind spots.

The controller circuit is also configured to determine based on the occupant data that the one or more objects remain inside the vehicle for a time exceeding a first threshold after the operator has exited. The controller circuit is also configured to output an alert indicating the one or more objects remain inside the vehicle when the time exceeds the first threshold. The system can improve passenger safety by alerting the vehicle operator that a child remains in the vehicle unattended before the operator moves away from the vehicle.

The radar localization landmarks include edges or corners of the GNSS denial environment. The instructions also cause the processor to generate polylines along or between the radar localization landmarks to generate a radar occupancy grid. The instructions further cause the processor to receive radar detections from one or more radar sensors and obtain a vehicle pose within the radar occupancy grid to localize the vehicle within the GNSS denial environment. In this way, the system can provide highly accurate vehicle localization in GNSS denial environments in a cost-effective manner.

The HD navigation route includes the list of waypoints, additional waypoints, and lane geometry data. The vehicle controller can then operate the host vehicle in a roadway environment along the HD navigation route. In this way, the described techniques and systems can provide HD navigation routes required by some assisted-driving and autonomous-driving systems based on SD navigation routes.

The described lidar system transmits an initial signal having a first power level of an alternating pattern of power levels. The initial signal is associated with an initial pixel of consecutive pixels. The lidar system then transmits a subsequent signal, which is associated with a subsequent pixel of the consecutive pixels, having a second power level. The transmission of the initial signal and the subsequent signal with the alternating pattern of power levels limits a total power level emitted by the lidar system during a time interval to comply with safety regulations. The alternating pattern of power levels also permits the lidar system to switch between a long-detection range and a short-detection range for consecutive pixels.

    Abstract: Techniques and apparatuses are described that implement lateral-bin monitoring for radar target detection. In particular, a radar system, which is mounted to a moving platform, divides a region of interest that is associated with at least one side of the moving platform into multiple lateral bins. The radar system maps locations of detections to the lateral bins, and monitors respective quantities of consecutive frames in which detections occur within the lateral bins. The radar system determines that at least one object is present within one of the lateral bins responsive to a quantity of consecutive frames having detections within the lateral bin being equal to or greater than a threshold. By waiting for a lateral bin to have detections across multiple consecutive frames, the radar system can minimize the false-alarm rate without reducing sensitivity.

The lateral and longitudinal corrections are used to generate a corrected position. In this way, the described localization system can provide accurate vehicle localization that addresses potential drift caused by lapsed or inaccurate positioning data and allows for the operation of assisted-driving and autonomous-driving systems at higher speeds and on roadways with tighter curves.

    Abstract: This document describes techniques and systems for frequency division multiplexing (FDM) with polyphase shifters. A radar system can include transmitters, receivers, polyphase shifters, and a processor. The transmitters emit electromagnetic (EM) signals in an FDM scheme, and the receivers detect EM signals reflected by objects. The received EM signals include multiple channels. The processor controls the polyphase shifters to introduce phase shifts to the EM signals. The processor can also divide a Doppler-frequency spectrum of the received EM signals into multiple sectors representing a respective frequency range. Each channel is associated with a respective sector. The processor can determine, using non-coherent integration across the sectors, potential detections of the objects, including aliased and actual detections. The processor can then determine the actual detections. In this way, the described FDM techniques with polyphase shifters can resolve Doppler ambiguities in received EM signals.
