Abstract: The dimensional stability, especially at elevated temperatures such as 70.degree. C., of thermoplastic resin foams, such as those of aliphatic olefin polymers, is substantially improved by the inclusion therein of from 0.01 to 5 weight percent, based upon said resin, of certain benzylideneaniline derivatives, azobenzene derivatives, azooxybenzene derivatives and the like.
Abstract: A new type of scoured animal hair material, in which the animal hair retains therein 1 to 3% by weight of a residual soapy substance and 0.3 to 5% by weight of a residual fatty substance, is prepared by scouring a greasy animal hair material in the form of opened loose fibers having a density of 0.007 to 0.04 g/cm.sup.3, with a scouring liquid comprising at least one organic solvent selected from 1,1,1-trichloroethane and methylene chloride and 0.1 to 10%, based on the weight of the scouring liquid, of a raw animal hair grease which has been extracted from the same type of greasy animal hair as that to be scoured, while moving either one or both of the animal hair material and the scouring liquid in relation to each other at a relative speed of 3 to 60 m/min.

Abstract: A thermoplastic synthetic resin such as polyethylene or ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer resin containing 0.1 to 10 wt. % of a specific additive selected from specific classes of compounds, namely saturated higher fatty acid amides, saturated higher aliphatic amines and complete esters of saturated higher fatty acids is found to be very suitable for production of expanded articles and can be easily formed into expanded articles with little shrinkage after expansion, free from creases on the surface or cracks on the cell walls, and having excellent characteristics such as good closed cellular characteristic, high compressive strength, low density, etc.
Abstract: In injection molding thermoplastic resin compositions containing reinforcing materials and/or fillers, high quality molded articles superior in surface gloss and exhibiting substantially no surface defect can be obtained, by employing a technical measure, in which only superficial layer of the inner wall surface of the mold is selectively heated, by high-frequency induction heating, to a temperature above the heat distortion temperature of the thermoplastic resin composition employed prior to injection molding and cooling and solidifying the resin.
Abstract: A highly heat resistant thermoplastic resin composition having high oil-resistance which contains(a) polyphenylene ether resin,(b) a copolymer comprising a vinyl aromatic compound and an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydride as components, or a copolymer comprising a vinyl aromatic compound and an imide compound of an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated dicarboxylic acid as components, and(c) polyamide,and, if desired,(d) an impact-resistant-reinforcing agent.

Specifically, the composition comprises one of the specific combinations of components (A), (B) and (C), i.e. the combinations of (A)+(B), (B)+(C) and (A)+(B)+(C), wherein (A) is non-rigid polyolefine resins such as ethylene vinyl acetate, (B) is an elastomer comprising a specific ethylene-.alpha.-olefin copolymer, and (C) is rigid polyolefin resins such as polypropylene.

Abstract: Polyolefin foam having small, uniform cell size is prepared (1) by mixing a polyolefin resin with (a) a volatile organic blowing agent and (b) from about 0.1 to about 5 weight percent, based upon the polyolefin resin weight, of a cell control agent (e.g., such as amorphous silica having a pH of from 3.5 to 4.5), said cell control agent being in the form of nonporous microspheres having an average particle size of from about 5 to about 100 m.mu. and (2) by thereafter extrusion-expanding the resultant mixture.
Abstract: 1,1,1-trichloroethane is recovered in an excellent yield from textile material without deterioration in quality of the textile material by a method in which a textile material is introduced into a hot water bath having a temperature of 64.degree. C. or more and a pH of 4.0 or more, so as to allow 1,1,1-trichloroethane to vaporize together with water, the mixture of vapors of 1,1,1-trichloroethane and water is condensed by cooling it, and then, the condensed 1,1,1-trichloroethane is separated from the condensed water.

Abstract: A novel diester compound of the formula (I): ##STR1## wherein each of R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 represents a group of the formula (II): ##STR2## wherein n is an integer of 0 to 4; and m an integer of 1 to 5, is found to be capable of imparting excellent flame-retardancy to various inflammable polymeric materials such as polystyrene, polyester, polyamide, polyphenylene oxide, etc. without deleterious effects on other physical properties of such polymeric materials.

Abstract: The dimensional stability of closed-cell synthetic polymer foams can be notably improved by the incorporation therein, during their preparation, of from about 0.1 to about 10 percent by weight (based upon the weight of the synthetic resin) of certain borate or phosphinate glycol ester compounds such as, for example, tri(1-stearyl-glycero)borate, tri(monostearylpolyoxyethyleneglycol)borate, di(1-stearylglycero)phosphinate, and the like.

Abstract: Expanded particles of a crosslinked polyolefin resin, each particle with uniformly spherical shape, having an average diameter of 1.4 to 5.5 mm, an average expansion ratio of 18 to 37 and specific compression coefficient of 1.6 .times. 10.sup.-3 to 4.0 .times. 10.sup.-3, are found to be produced by two-step foaming operations. They are useful for various purposes such as filtrating material, fillers in stuffed specimens and, especially for preparation of molded articles having constricted portions, giving excellent moldings having smooth surface without failure at corner or edge portions.
