  • Patent number: 4243882
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for measuring the thicknesses of film layers of different synthetic resins forming a composite multilayer film or sheet by utilizing infrared rays. Infrared rays of sample wavelengths, each equal to the infrared absorption wavelength of each film layer, and at least one reference wavelength different from the infrared absorption wavelength of each film layer are projected onto the multilayer film to be measured. Ratios are obtained between the amounts of infrared lights of the sample and reference wavelengths transmitted through the multilayer film. An operation is achieved for solving a simultaneous equation including the ratios and the infrared absorption coefficients of the film layers at the sample and reference wavelengths as coefficients and the thicknesses of the film layers as unknowns, thereby obtaining the thicknesses of the film layers.

  • Patent number: 4229395
Abstract: Molten synthetic resin material containing foaming agent in an amount of 0.05 to 5 percent by weight is injected into a pre-pressurized mold cavity in a mold which is closed by a relatively low clamping force having a coefficient in the range of 10 to 40, said coefficient being represented as a ratio of clamping force to maximum injection shot volume. The above injection step is carried out for at least 3 seconds. After the injection step has been initiated, the pre-pressurized mold is released to atmosphere during the injection step at the soonest. At least two molds may be used to be alternately charged with said material.

  • Patent number: 4225049
Abstract: A vessel such as a glass bottle having a narrow-necked portion is protected by coating with a stretched film of crosslinked polyolefin resin having specific characteristics. The film holds the vessel very tightly through the shrink tension of the heat-shrunk film at the narrower part and through the elastic tension of the elongated film at the wider part. The protected vessel has excellent effect for preventing scattering of glass fragments at the time of breaking as well as good display effect and cap-seal effect. The coated film has also good printability.
