    Abstract: An Inductive Power Transfer System pickup provides a controlled AC power supply by controlled variation of the phase angle between the pickup coil induced voltage (jwMI) and the tuning capacitor C voltage. The phase angle can be varied by maintaining the tuning capacitor C voltage substantially constant for a selected time period. Switches S1 and S2 may be used to clamp the tuning capacitor C voltage at substantially zero volts during the selected time period. Switch S1 can be operated to prevent a rise in positive voltage across the tuning capacitor, and switch S2 can be used to prevent the voltage across the tuning capacitor from going negative.

    Abstract: The disclosure provides a wireless power transfer circuit that uses two coupled resonators provided in one of a primary or secondary wireless power transfer magnetic structure. The coupled resonators work together to compensate for changes in relative position. Each resonator has a planar coil, and the resonators are coupled with each other by magnetic coupling of the planar coils, which are located adjacent each other in either a side by side relationship or a partially overlapping relationship. The circuit is tolerant to misalignment of the magnetic structures (often referred to as pads) which magnetically couple with each other to enable the transfer of power. The changes in inductances as well as main, cross, and inter coupling between the coils of the primary and pick-up pads or structures show that a constant power transfer or charging profile can be maintained over a large operating region.

    Abstract: Optimising water use in a way that avoids over watering or at least avoids or minimises water mobilisation may be useful. An irrigation control system is described, the system including a sound emitter arranged to emit sound towards a ground surface; a sound receiver arranged to receive sound emitted by the sound emitter and reflected or scattered from the ground surface. A controller then controls one or more irrigation parameters of an irrigator based at least in part on sound received by the sound receiver. In a further aspect, the irrigation control system senses the onset of surface water pooling or free water flow on the ground surface and the controller then controls irrigation parameters to reduce application of water in response to the sensed features. Related methods of controlling irrigation systems are also described.
