    Abstract: A package film comprising a biaxially oriented film and pattern connection layer is described. The package film comprises an exterior layer comprising a biaxially oriented film. The biaxially oriented film is a biaxially oriented nylon film or a biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate film. The package film also comprises an interior layer comprising a sealant film, and a pattern connection layer positioned between and directly adjacent each of the exterior layer and the interior layer. The pattern connection layer comprises a solvent-based adhesive or a water-based adhesive. The package film has a secant modulus greater than 120,000 psi and an elongation at break of less than 150%. The package film is adapted to form an evacutable storage bag. Various embodiments of the package films are also described.

The second border of the first portion is adjacent the first edge of the label, the fourth border is adjacent the third edge of the label, and the scored edge is adjacent the first border and the third border of the first portion of the tear strip. The label further comprises a second tab comprising a first side and a second side. The first side is adjacent the first border, and the second side is adjacent the third border. Various embodiments of the label are also described.

The first panel of the package comprises a multilayer film with an exterior layer having a nonlinear first score Sine and an interior layer having a linear second score line. The first score line and the second score fine are positioned non-parallel in a plane of the package such that the first score line intersects the second score line to form an opening in the package at the second score line when the exterior layer and the interior layer are separated. Separation of the exterior layer and the interior layer also forms an adhesive-free pour spout in the separated exterior layer. Various embodiments of various package configurations, score line configurations, multilayer film structures and methods of manufacturing are also described.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to improved packages which include a rigid or semi-rigid tray having a single thermoplastic overwrap comprising a polymeric laminate surrounding the tray and having a front panel and an opposing back panel. The inventive packages also include a continuous seal circumscribing a recessed cavity of the tray which comprises a heat seal formed by heat sealing a portion of the front panel to the peripheral flange of the tray. Advantageously, when the tray is removed from the overwrap, a portion of the first film separates from the laminate and remains peelably sealed to the flange of the tray and thus, may serve as a lidding film for the container. Since the recessed cavity is still covered, the container may then be placed directly in a microwave or conventional oven to thaw and/or cook the food container within the package without first removing the lidding film.

    Abstract: The present disclosure is concerned with packages formed from thermoformable webs with improved puncture resistance suitable for use in semi-automatic horizontal form fill and seal (HFFS) packaging machines and a process for packaging hard food items with sharp angular surfaces using such webs in such machines. The webs have a double wall partially laminated structure. The structure is conveniently formed by adhesively laminating two component films in a face to face configuration using a pattern of adhesive which leaves a substantial portion of the two facing surfaces unlaminated. The lamination just needs to be sufficient that the two component films will hot form together when they are vacuum drawn into a die to form a cavity for packaging the food items. The lamination pattern can vary from just edge strips to the edge strips and a honey comb pattern or a pattern of dots over the facing surfaces between the edge strips.
