  • Patent number: 7632175
Abstract: A hard-faced cutting blade and hard-facing method is provided. A hard-facing material is applied to a cutting edge of a cutting blade such that a heat-affected transition zone may be created between the base metal and the hard-facing material. • Publication number: 20080099102
Abstract: A tree felling head including a gathering arm and a bunching finger. In various embodiments the bunching finger may include inner and outer arms pivotally coupled together with the inner arm also pivotally coupled to a frame portion of the felling head. A biasing member, e.g. a compression spring, urges pivotal movements of the inner arm toward (and/or away from) the accumulation area of the felling head. An actuator connected to the outer arm reciprocally helps urges movement of the finger into and out of the accumulation area of the felling head. In various embodiments, a coupling of the actuator to the outer arm permits folding pivotal movement between the arms when retraction occurs and a tree inhibits outer sweeping movement of the outer finger. Said folding resulting in withdrawal of the outer finger from behind the inhibiting tree.

First drive links are coupled with the cutter links and are adapted to ride in a groove of a guide bar. The first drive links have a clean out tang sized and shaped to scoop debris from within the groove, and have two first drive link side surfaces on opposite sides thereof adapted to have at least occasional wearing contact with interior side walls of the groove. Second drive links are coupled with the first drive links and the cutter links, and are adapted to ride in the groove of the guide bar. Each second drive link has second drive link side surfaces adapted to have at least occasional wearing contact with the interior side walls of the groove. The second drive link side surfaces have a greater surface area than the first drive link side surfaces, and in some embodiments may be featured rudder links.

  • Publication number: 20070215138
Abstract: A concrete cutting chain saw has heretofore been considered a rugged performing tool demanding high horsepower and unavailable to the homeowner having only single phase electrical power for powering such a tool. This has been addressed and resolved by a balancing of the torque and chain speed to thereby allow for sufficient torque at the lower horsepower capability of single phase power inputs. Chain width and thereby cutting width may also be reduced, as well as the abrasive elements per cutter may be reduced in order to enable the use of low horsepower power heads.

  • Patent number: 7175512
Abstract: A cutting chain bench grinder includes a self-centering vise that centers the cutting chain on an axis of rotation of the vise base. By centering the cutting chain to intersect the vise base axis of rotation, consistent top plate lengths and hook angles can be ground into left and right-hand cutters on a cutting chain. The vise base may also be adjusted horizontally in and out from the grinder base to align the vise base axis of rotation with the axis of rotation of the grinding wheel. The vise base may also be adjusted vertically relative to the vise base to vertically compensate for grinding wheel wear and to control grinding depth. A light tension spring may be used to bias the grinding head in both grinding and dressing positions. A down angle positioner may also be provided that rotates the cutting chain in the vise around a longitudinal centerline of the cutting chain.

  • Patent number: 7044025
Abstract: Batch casting of rim sprockets for chain saws as particularly applied to larger rim sprockets experience undesired high scrap rate resulting from porosity and chip-out. The solution is to ensure flow of molten steel throughout solidification of the molten steel in the sprocket mold while retaining molten steel portals or gates of a size that permits breakaway of portal stems. Such enhances the cooling rate of the molten steel in the sprocket mold which was found beneficial. The objective of reduced scrap rate is thus accomplished by maintaining a ratio of mass to surface area of the sprockets being cast to no greater than about 4 grams of material to each square inch of surface area and alternatively provide through bores through the rim sprockets which additionally assist in wood chip removal. This design also reduces the material content which reduces the cost and weight of the product.

  • Patent number: 6964101
Abstract: A lightweight guide bar formed from a heavy material, e.g., steel, and having a center section, e.g., a cavity of reduced material and fitted with a lighter weight insert, e.g., aluminum plate. The center section includes a flange to which the aluminum plate is adhered and a spacer lip defines the desired thickness of the adhesive. Adhesive is applied to the desired thickness under the lip and the aluminum plate is abutted against the lip and into contact with the adhesive for adhering of the plate to the flange. In a preferred embodiment, the flange is a continuous web down the center of the center section and insert plates are adhered to each side of the web. Also, preferably the inserts are oval and symmetrical and are selectively mechanically secured to the flanges by rivets.
