  • Patent number: 5438861
Abstract: Condoms and other sheaths are tested for holes by drawing the sheath over a hollow porous mandrel having smaller openings at its head end than in the rest of its body, providing a difference between the pressure within the mandrel and the pressure outside the condom, and comparing the rate of change of pressure within the mandrel with the rate of change of a reference pressure. The mandrel is shaped such that powder particles in the inner surface of the condom are moved toward the head of the mandrel where the smaller openings are when a condom is drawn onto it, for substantially preventing the powder from clogging the larger pores below the head region of the mandrel.

  • Patent number: 5316731
Abstract: A sample collection container having inner and outer chambers. The container may be fitted with upper and lower stoppers to provide a vacuum within the container. The device is adapted for the collection of a fluid, such as blood, in the inner chamber. The blood then passes from the inner chamber to the outer chamber upon releasing the vacuum. A concentrate of fluid components of blood, cellular debris, and contaminating microorganisms, if present, may be left in the inner chamber, and be removed subsequently from the inner chamber for testing for the presence of contaminating microorganisms.

  • Patent number: 5230579
Abstract: A dispenser for liquids includes a dispenser head having an upper section captively mounted upon a lower section over a container of liquid to be dispensed. Removal of a cap from the dispenser head causes the upper section to move upward upon the lower section, for moving a plug out of a fluid flow channel or orifice. When the container is inverted in this open condition, liquid flows out of the container, through the orifice, and wets a rigid porous applicator mounted on top of the dispenser head upper section, for dispensing the liquid. When the cap is replaced on the dispenser head, its upper section is moved downward upon the lower section, causing the plug to enter and seal off the orifice, thereby closing the dispenser.

  • Patent number: 5102405
Abstract: A male contraceptive hood which is adhesively secured to the penis, the hood being initially rolled up and the interior of the hood being free of adhesive until it is unrolled. The hood has a thin sheath which serves as the contraceptive device and an outer cylindrical member which is initially rolled together with the thin sheath. The outer cylindrical member has an adhesive on a portion of its outer surface, separated from the outer surface by a release agent, the adhesive being transferred to the inner surface of the sheath as the hood is unrolled onto a penis. The outer member can then be removed leaving only the thin inner sheath on the penis. A projecting portion is provided on the outer member for grasping the outer member to remove it.In a preferred form, a lubricant is disposed between the sheath and the inner surface of the outer cylindrical member. This lubricant remains on the outer surface of the sheath to facilitate removal of the outer member and also to aid in intercourse.
