  • Patent number: 4806287
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the polymerization cast molding of lenses from hydrophilic gels. A hydrophobic liquid which is essentially immiscible with a hydrophilic polymerization mixture is introduced into a mold having a hydrophobic surface, followed by dosing of the hydrophilic monomer mixture which is allowed to polymerize to form a drop which is pressed, while polymerizing, into the mold with a punch having a hydrophobic molding surface. The polymerizing monomer mixture is maintained under the pressure of the punch until the end of the polymerization. Any overflow of the two liquids is allowed to escape between the mold and the punch. The apparatus comprises a concave mold with an inner hydrophobic, rotation-symmetrical surface, and a punch with a hydrophobic molding surface which when placed in relationship to the mold has an overflow space formed between the mold and the punch.

  • Patent number: 4794177
Abstract: The invention pertains to a method for the production of bead dextran materials for gel chromatography. The subject of the invention is a method for the production of bead dextran materials for gel chromatography, wherein dextran is, before or during the suspension process or in both stages, subjected to reduction in an alkaline solution, advantageously by the action of sodium borohydride, whereas the density of crosslinking is controlled above all by variation of the concentration of the initial dextran solution and the resulting gel may be optionally subjected to the additional crosslinking in a separate subsequent operation. The procedure according to the invention provides the product of higher quality with a lower content of carboxylic groups and substantially facilitates the preparation of gels with a very high and a very low crosslink density.

  • Patent number: 4696683
Abstract: The invention solves a method and an apparatus for the separation of solids from gaseous mixtures especially the separation of phthalic anhydride after its desublimation from mixtures with vapours of sublimable substances, steam, air or inert gases, which originate at sublimation refining or at catalytic production of phthalic anhydride by air oxidation of naphthalene or o-xylene.The flakes of phthalic anhydride, which originated after the decrease of temperature in the desublimator space were agglomerated and compacted due to the increase of velocity of gaseous mixture in contracted cross-section of the separator. The formed agglomerates are separated from the gaseous mixture and collected in a receiver well. From the well the agglomerates are transported by a conveyor or they are continuously melted. The melt formed outlets through a siphon. The rest 1 to 5% of phthalic anhydride is separated from gaseous mixture in a filter from wire net and by gradual melting is introduced into the receiver well.
