Abstract: Strain and time-strain measurement in a well enables derivation of a constant that links the two. Knowledge of the constant along with time-strain measurement at another well enables estimation of strain at the other well.
Abstract: Well information may define subsurface configuration of different wells. Marker information defining marker positions within the wells may be obtained. A dissimilarity matrix for the wells may generated, with the element values of the dissimilarity matrix determined based on comparison of corresponding subsurface configuration of the wells. A gated dissimilarity matrix may be generated from the dissimilarity matrix based on the marker positions within the wells. The elements values of the gated dissimilarity matrix corresponding to one set of marker positions and not corresponding to the other set of marker positions may be changed. Correlation between the wells may be determined based on the gated dissimilarity matrix such that correlation exists between a marker position in one well and a marker position in another well.

Abstract: A process for preparing a base oil from a waxy hydrocarbon feedstock is provided. The process comprises passing the hydrocarbon feedstock to a distillation column prior to dewaxing in order to recover a heavy wax cut. The heavy wax is then hydrocracked to lower boiling compounds which can be better isomerized to a base oil with an acceptable cloud point. The base oil yield is also increased.

Abstract: Provided in one embodiment is an improved and more flexible process for preparing a finished base oil or a white oil product comprising passing a dewaxed base oil product to a distillation column and separating the dewaxed base oil product into fuel and base oil product streams. The base oil product streams are tested to determine if they meet desired specifications. Base oil product streams that meet the desired minimum base oil specifications are passed to a hydrofinishing reactor to prepare a white oil product, or passed to direct sale.
Abstract: Provided is a process for preparing base oil from a waxy hydrocarbon feedstock by contacting the hydrocarbon feedstock in a hydroisomerization zone under hydroisomerization conditions. The reaction is in the presence of hydrogen and an inert gas, with the total pressure in the hydroisomerization zone being at least 400 psig. A product from the hydroisomerization zone is collected and separated into base oil products and fuel products. The inert gas can comprise any suitable inert gas, but is generally nitrogen, methane or argon. Nitrogen is used in one embodiment.
Abstract: Provided is a hydrocracking process with a recycle loop for converting a petroleum feed to lower boiling products, which process comprises reacting a stream over a non-zeolite noble metal catalyst at a temperature of about 650° F. (343° C.) or less in a reactor positioned in the recycle loop of the hydrocracking reactor.

Abstract: Provided in one embodiment is a continuous process for converting waste plastic comprising polyethylene and/or polypropylene into recycle for polypropylene polymerization. The process comprises selecting waste plastics containing polyethylene, polypropylene, or a mixture thereof, and passing the waste plastics through a pyrolysis reactor to thermally crack at least a portion of the polyolefin waste and produce a pyrolyzed effluent. The pyrolyzed effluent is separated into offgas, a pyrolysis oil comprising a naphtha, diesel and heavy fractions, and char. The pyrolysis oil, or at least a fraction, is passed to a filtration/metal oxide treatment, with the treated product passed to a refinery FCC unit. A liquid petroleum gas C3 olefin/paraffin mixture fraction is recovered from the FCC unit, as well as a C4 olefin/paraffin mixture fraction.
Abstract: A method is described for seismic inversion including receiving a processed seismic image and an enhanced seismic image representative of a subsurface volume of interest; forward modeling the processed seismic image and the enhanced seismic image to generate a first modeled dataset and a second modeled dataset; differencing the first modeled dataset and the second modeled dataset to create a residual dataset; filtering the first modeled dataset to generate an approximation of illumination; preconditioning the residual dataset with the approximation of illumination to generate an adjoint source; back projecting the adjoint source to determine a model update; and applying the model update to an earth model of the subsurface volume of interest.
