Publication number: 20190048636Abstract: An overhead door having a floating spring adjustment is presented. Tension is applied to a torsion spring while the door is in the open, minimal tension state. One end of the torsion spring is fixed to a spring tension trolley. The trolley translates within a trolley guide mounted to the building structure. The other end of the torsion spring is fixed to a shaft running through the torsion spring. This allows the torsion spring to change in length as the number of coils shrink and grow through door operation thereby eliminating the “snake-like” or serpentine appearance from an improper fixed torsion spring length.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 9, 2017Publication date: February 14, 2019Applicant: CIW Enterprises, Inc.Inventors: Joseph L. Publication number: 20180106086Abstract: A multi-panel overhead stacking door which allows for the addition of multiple panels across an opening width. A vertical extrusion acts a guide for the panel above and/or below it. The vertical extrusion serves as a moving guide which thereby allows for the relatively easy addition of multiple panels. At each end of the door is a series of formed parts that are attached to the ends of the end panels and movably maintained with door guides. The assembled door is driven by, for example, a driven shaft, positioned at the top of or above the door opening. The shaft comprises drums to windingly and unwindingly receive a lifting member. The lifting member runs from the drum to the bottom panel assembly behind each vertical extrusion.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 14, 2016Publication date: April 19, 2018Applicant: CIW Enterprises, Inc.Inventors: Thomas Balay, Joseph Balay, Ian Klish

Publication number: 20170234061Abstract: A fabric fire rated door is described. The door utilizes a fire resistant fabric curtain with an end lock attachment. A tubular steel shaft is driven by an internal tube motor. The shaft is supported to minimize deflection. Single door shafts can also be joined together with a coupler shaft to create infinitely wide doors. The coupler shaft is spring loaded to act as a take up reel for a coupling curtain which will overlap each adjacent single door shaft. All curtains are attached to the same bottom bar. A hood covers the shaft, curtain, and the supports that run across the width of the door. The curtain travels over these horizontal supports as it drops down through the hood opening. The horizontal supports keep the curtain in position for proper seal during a fire/smoke event.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 10, 2017Publication date: August 17, 2017Applicant: CIW Enterprises, Inc.Inventors: James Janick, Brian Feist, David Dawdy, Ian Klish

Patent number: 9175513Abstract: The present invention presents a method to permit emergency egress through an access opening covered by an overhead coiling fire door. Upon receiving an alarm notification from a first detector located on one side of the access opening the door is power closed to a predetermined height and held there for the predetermined time, then power closed to a fully closed position. Upon receiving a second alarm notification from a second detector located on the opposite side of the access opening the door enters into a secondary alarm condition. The door is power closed and awaits notification to initiate a secondary emergency egress sequence. The secondary emergency egress sequence comprises receiving a door opening notification, opening the door, holding the door open for a predetermined time, and reclosing the door. Upon primary power restoration or a return to a non-alarm condition the door returns to its preset open position.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 2014Date of Patent: November 3, 2015Assignee: CIW Enterprises, Inc.Inventor: David Dawdy
