Patent number: 8336348Abstract: Apparatus and associated methodology are provided for key operated pin tumbler locks, some of which may incorporate a removable core pin tumbler lock. A selected tumbler of a type commonly used in pin tumbler locks is configured along with a driver pin to control operation of a retainer that, when rotated by use of a control key inserted in the lock, allows alternate selective removal and replacement of the core assembly in the lock. Also, or separate therefrom, one or more tumbler holes may be formed or drilled in a manner so as to prevent engagement of a tumbler with the bite of a key. Presently disclosed structures and associated methodology help to reduce any susceptibility to unauthorized techniques practiced against the lock, such as unintentional activation of the tumblers by unauthorized persons through use of a key with so-called “bumping” techniques.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 2007Date of Patent: December 25, 2012Assignee: CompX International Inc.Inventors: Robert E. Publication number: 20120248794Abstract: Disclosed are apparatus and methodology for fine tuning the fit and function of a cam lock used to secure an enclosure or similar. A cam lock is provided with a cam and a set of variously sized adjustment pads that may be individually secured at one end of the cam. The adjustment pads each differ in thickness, and are installable on the cam without the need of tools. The variously sized adjustment pads allow field installation and adjustment of the position of cam contact surfaces to easily and quickly adjust positioning for spacing variations due to manufacturing tolerances. Such customized installation provides improved security, reduced noise and rattle of the enclosure door, and a more professional aspect to the installation.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 14, 2012Publication date: October 4, 2012Applicant: COMPX INTERNATIONAL INC.Inventors: Robert E. Patent number: 8240500Abstract: Disclosed are apparatus and methodology for securing access to an underground device such as a storage tank. A lockable blocking plate is secured to a filler cap for an underground storage tank in a manner to inhibit access to the filler cap. The locking mechanism is configured such that the lock and blocking plate may freely rotate with respect to the filler cap. The blocking plate may include a side skirt extending to cover portions of the filler cap and, optionally, portions of a standpipe and coupling for the filler cap. Free rotation is enabled by way of an annular groove in a portion of the locking mechanism, and into which groove one or more locking portions may be inserted, or by way of a freely moving swivel boss attached to the filler cap.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 2009Date of Patent: August 14, 2012Assignee: CompX International Inc.Inventors: Robert E. Patent number: 8199019Abstract: Disclosed are apparatus and methodology subject matters for temperature monitoring and controlled access to refrigerated medications. An electronically controlled lock is installed on a refrigerator used for storage of temperature sensitive medications. Lock access is given to individuals having differing levels of access authorization so that user level authorization holders may have access to stored medications. Supervisor level authorization holders may have access to stored medications and may also effect changes in lock settings including setting alarm levels. Alarm levels may be adjusted to monitor temperatures within the refrigerated storage area so that in the case that temperature fall outside preset limits, access to the stored medicines may be had only by those individuals having supervisory access authorization.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 2008Date of Patent: June 12, 2012Assignee: CompX International Inc.Inventors: Kenneth A. Publication number: 20120077394Abstract: The present subject matter is directed to electronic circuitry and associated hardware configured to electronically control directional signals, i.e., neutral, forward and reverse signals, to the transmission of a watercraft. The circuitry provides for electronic control of the throttle position of the watercraft engine and electronic override of the transmission shifting circuitry to allow throttling up (i.e., revving) of the engine without placing the transmission into gear. In an alternative embodiment, directional control is effected by operation of a lever mechanism and override functionality is effected by manual disengagement of a drive mechanism for the directional control while maintaining operation of the electronic throttle control.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 23, 2011Publication date: March 29, 2012Applicant: CompX International Inc.Inventors: David Banks, Emory Hodges, Kenneth A. Patent number: 8118490Abstract: A low profile baseframe is used with a desk or other support to movable support a keyboard or other device. The baseframe has ball races integrally formed along each side. The ball races face one another and contain ball retainers that are sized and shaped to fit within the ball races so that rows of ballbearings in each slide are substantially vertical relative to one another. The ball retainers are made from molded plastic and are folded into a U-shape after being removed from the mold. The baseframe has a slide plate that extends between the two ball races with side edges inserted into the ball retainers. The baseframe is constructed without the use of fastening means. The ball retainers rest in the ball races and the slide plate rests in the ball retainers without welding, bolts or rivets.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2005Date of Patent: February 21, 2012Assignee: Compx International Inc.Inventor: Samuel Jurja

Publication number: 20120038177Abstract: Disclosed is a convertible motorized latch that may be configured in either of a slam latch or a dead bolt latch configuration, just by desired selection and replacement of a minimal number of components, and which may be used on new (oem) equipment or in retrofit applications. In either preferred configuration, an electric motor contained within the latch housing operates to open or unlock the latch. Latch closure may be provided by spring actuation in a slam configuration or by further motor operation in a dead bolt configuration. Either present configuration may make use of an electrical feedback switch for signaling latch retraction while the dead bolt configuration may also include a second electrical feedback switch for signaling latch extension. A gear train may be incorporated within the latch housing to provide reduced speed and increased torque from the electric motor.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 27, 2011Publication date: February 16, 2012Applicant: COMPX INTERNATIONAL INC.Inventors: Matthew R. Patent number: 7913809Abstract: Disclosed are apparatus and methodology for reducing noise and wear in a flapper configured exhaust tip for a marine exhaust system. A flapper, normally located within an exhaust tip of a marine exhaust system, is relocated upstream of the point in the exhaust system where cooling water normally contacts the exhaust pipe. An exhaust tip is coupled to the upstream portion of the exhaust system by way of an elastomeric coupling device. The flapper is positioned such that a tip thereof contacts the elastomeric coupling rather than the metallic exhaust pipe. Such contact with an elastomeric coupling device reduces noise previously produced by flapper contact with the hot exhaust pipe occasioned by destruction and/or heat degeneration of elastomeric material generally associated with the flapper device.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 2009Date of Patent: March 29, 2011Assignee: CompX International Inc.Inventor: Joseph R.
