  • Patent number: 4995737
Abstract: An axial anti-friction bearing for mounting of the spring pad in a shock absorber leg of a vehicle wheel. The bearing including two races supporting rolling bodies between them. Each race is supported by a separate annular plastic cap. The two caps are snapped together in a sliding manner with respect to each other by holding noses to form a structural unit. At least one pin and preferably a plurality thereof protrude approximately axially from the cap. The spring plate to which the bearing is supported includes cutouts, in the form of drain holes in the spring plate, placed to each receive one of the pins. The bearing is thereby held in snap like manner on the spring plate via the pins. Each pin is provided with a hook and each extends over an arcuate portion of the circumference of the spring plate, approximately 30.degree..

Abstract: A wheel mount for driven wheels including an axially inner hub and an axially outward outer part. A first row of rolling elements rolling about the periphery of the hub and a second row of rolling elements rolling about the periphery of a pivot journal projecting from the outward part into the bore of the hub. In the bore of the hub is a circumferential array of axially extending, obliquely radially outwardly inclined teeth. A fastening journal from the outward part projects into the bore axially past the oblique teeth. The fastening journal is plastically deformable to define a deformed bead which engages in the toothing in the bore of the hub to provide a rotation lock between the hub and the outward part. The bore of the hub and the periphery of the fastening journal also are stepped complementary for axially fixing them in form locked manner.

  • Patent number: 4958946
Abstract: A separator or cage for a row of ball bearings designed to reduce friction on the balls. The pocket surfaces in the separator have recesses in the region of the axial "poles" of the balls which prevents contact between the balls and the separator pocket walls. Over the rest of the separator, the pocket walls are near enough to the balls to define a hydrodynamic lubricating film. Also over the rest of the separator pockets, the interior surfaces of the pockets are shaped to face the respective balls and to define a wedge-shaped slot with the ball for development of a hydrodynamic lubricating film as the balls rotate in either direction around their axes. The separator is comprised of two strips fastened together. Each strip has a complementary C-shaped pocket half depression, and the two strips joined together define the complete pockets that enclose the balls between the axial poles of the balls.

The bearing includes a shaft having two axially spaced inner races defined in it, an outer ring around and radially spaced from the inner ring with respective races defined in it, and rolling elements between the races. A respective seal axially outward of each of the rows of rolling elements defines an enclosed sealed space between the seals. A housing is die cast around the outer ring. For providing heat protection during casting of the housing around the outer ring, a respective sheet metal jacket is placed around the outer ring in the axial regions covering the respective set of races and the adjacent seal, wherein the jacket is around the bearing during die casting of the housing thereon.

  • Patent number: 4943171
Abstract: A wheel bearing unit for motor vehicles, and the like, having an outer ring and two rows of anti-friction rolling elements in the outer ring. An axially inward hub has one race for one row of rolling elements. An axially outer part of the of the bearing unit has another row of rolling elements on its periphery. One of the hub or the outer part has an axially projecting pin projecting toward the other. The other of the outer part and the hub has a sleeve with an internal bore into which the pin projects. The periphery of the pin and the interior of the bore are stepped complementary to one another such that when the hub and outer part are brought together, they are stabilized thereby. An axially directed projection projects from the axially forward end of the pin into engagement with the bottom of the bore. When the outer part and hub are relatively rotated, the contact is sufficiently heated to friction weld the end of the axially directed projection to the bottom of the bore.

  • Patent number: 4890940
Abstract: A magnetic liquid sealing ring installed in an antifriction bearing between the outer and the inner rings is an integral structure comprised of a sealing ring, which is engaged in the bearing outer ring, and of a pre-seal at the axial inside of the sealing ring. Magnetic liquid elements are supported radially inward of the sealing ring by a magnet in the sealing ring. The pre-seal has an annular groove opening toward the bearing inner ring for holding escaping liquid. An axially outwardly facing shoulder formed on the bearing inner ring raceway cooperates with an axially inwardly facing inside of the pre-seal for defining a slot between them and those surfaces are inclined obliquely to the rolling elements and to the axis of the bearing.

  • Patent number: 4887917
Abstract: A wheel mount for a motor vehicle including a hub which is welded to another part, such as a swivel joint or a holding part. The hub carries on it the inner ring of the anti-friction bearing for the hub. Projecting axially from the hub and from the other part are correspondingly radially spaced projections which, prior to welding and deformation of the projections, are of lengths great enough to hold the hub and the other part axially apart. Upon welding temperature being achieved at the projections, e.g. by friction, the hub and the other part are pressed together which deforms the projections, forming beads of deformation, and the hub and other part are welded at the beads of deformation. The hub and other part are pressed together until the axial ends of the hub and other part contact.

  • Patent number: 4885979
Abstract: A braking-power booster including a valve for controlling the pressure that acts upon the booster piston. The valve has two radially spaced valve seats, which both face toward and seal off against a valve sealing plate. With the radially inward valve seat off the valve plate, air passes through the valve. A silencer in the form of a screen is arranged directly alongside the radially inward seat that is opened off the plate. Upon air passing through the valve, the screen suppresses noise generated in the valve. The screen is of a round-wire netting, comprised of brass wire that is galvanized. The screen has a cup-shape, and its convex side faces the seat.

  • Patent number: 4886379
Abstract: A cage for a ball bearing comprised of two generally ridge-shaped ring parts, the respective axially projecting ridges of which are cooperatively placed to define respective pockets for the balls. The plane of separation between the two ring parts is shifted axially off the center and toward one of the ring parts. In the ring part with the axially larger ridges, the circumferentially opposite ends of the respective ridges are at least nearly flat, in the plane through the centers of the balls. The axially deepest surfaces of the ridges are also at least nearly flat, at the axially opposite sides of the cage, which is generally in the respective axial plane through the center of each ball. This prevents jamming of the balls, even in the case of defective manufacture or defective connection of the ring parts.

  • Patent number: 4844628
Abstract: A cage for an antifriction bearing is an elongate strip of injection molded plastic in the form of individual cage sections. Each section has lateral sides and cross webs which together define a pocket for a respective bearing rolling element. Adjacent cage sections are connected by thin strip connecting webs which are of a length to define an open space between adjacent sections. Respective connecting hooks are defined at the cross webs of each cage section. Following separation of two sections by breaking the connecting webs therebetween, the sections can be later reconnected for defining a complete circular cage by hooking the respective hooks at the cross webs of the neighboring sections to each other.
