  • Patent number: 4171579
Abstract: An installation for drying a liquid-containing particulate product comprises a supporting frame, a centrifugal separator removably mounted thereon and a large receptacle for the particles ejected from a discharge end of the separator basket supported on the supporting frame. The receptacle has a vertical wall defining an opening and the centrifugal separator is mounted for rotation about a horizontal axis and is arranged with the discharge end of the basket facing the opening in the vertical wall and extending into the receptacle whereby the particles are ejected into the receptacle upon rotation of the basket, the opening having a diameter slightly in excess of the diameter of the discharge end of the basket. The separator may thus be horizontally moved for placing it in position with the discharge end extending into the receptacle and for removing it without dismounting the receptacle.

  • Patent number: 4133770
Abstract: A screen for a centrifuge basket is comprised of a frusto-conical sheet consisting of several sectors defining a multiplicity of apertures. The disposition of the apertures is the same for all screen sheet sectors. The screen sheet is divided into successive zones defined by concentric circles extending in planes parallel to the large and small bases of the frusto-conical sheet, and the apertures in the successive zones differ from each other. The apertures in the first zone adjacent the small base are round holes defining a small percentage of apertured area in the first zone. The apertures in the succeeding zones are slits inclined with respect to a generatrix of the respective sector. The angle of inclination of the slits grows from zone to zone towards the large base and all the slits in the same zone and sector have the same inclination.

  • Patent number: 4110915
Abstract: Clinker coming from a rotary tubular kiln is cooled by moving a layer of the clinker of a grate in a cooler from a hot zone to a successively cooler zone by introducing fresh air in the cooler zone and passing in countercurrently through the layer of the clinker several times whereby a heat exchange takes place between the air and the clinker, the clinker becoming successively cooler and the air successively hotter. The air is introduced from the cooler zone sequentially into two sections of the hot zone, air at a temperature above 1000.degree. C is removed from a first section in the hot zone, and air at a lower temperature is conducted from the second section in the hot zone into the kiln where it is used as secondary heating air for the raw material therein.

  • Patent number: 4090553
Abstract: An internally cooled roll comprises a cylindrical body having two trunnions and an axially extending internal chamber. A coaxial cylindrical lining is countersunk in the chamber by casting and a coaxial hollow cylinder is arranged within the lining. The lining and cylinder define therebetween a passage for circulating a cooling fluid therethrough. Two conduits respectively supply and remove the cooling fluid to and from the passage, one of the conduits being connected with the lining.

  • Patent number: 4089641
Abstract: Cooling tubes are secured to a tubular rotary kiln in circumferentially spaced relationship for movement with the kiln about the kiln axis. A longitudinally terminal part of each tube is connected with an axial end portion of the kiln by a radial duct so that the terminal tube part receives hot, processed material from the kiln by gravity when the tube is located below the kiln. A deflector in the tube deflects previously received material into the path of the hot material dropping from the duct into the tube when the tube approaches its position below the kiln, thereby protecting the inner tube wall against the impact of the hot, discharged material, and preventing rapid wear of the refractory tube lining.

  • Patent number: 4086955
Abstract: A dummy or starter bar head used in the continuous casting of molten metal has an elongated cavity along its upper small face whose cross section increases inwardly from the small face. This cavity is formed partly in the head and partly in an insert removably mounted on the head, the plane of separation between the portion of the cavity defined by the head and that defined by the insert being so disposed that cast solidified metal formed in the cavity may be lifted out of the portion of the cavity after the insert has been removed.

  • Patent number: 4078775
Abstract: In a continuous ingot casting installation, a table of ingot support rollers is arranged in the horizontal cutting zone. This table is arranged between an upstream and a downstream set of ingot support rollers and is reciprocably displaceable therebetween in the direction of the path of movement of the continuously cast ingot and parallel to that of the displacement of a cutting machine. The table is displaced automatically in a direction opposite to that of the cutting machine each time the oxygen torch of the machine approaches one of the rollers of the table and returned to its initial position. In this way, billets are cut from the cast ingot.

  • Patent number: 4071081
Abstract: An internally cooled roller particularly useful for continuous casting of metals comprises a roller body and a sleeve mounted on the circumferential surface of the roller body, a conduit for circulating a cooling fluid being defined between the roller body and sleeve. A flange is mounted on one end face of the roller body. The flange has a first tubular member projecting between the sleeve and a reduced diameter end of the roller body surface, a first annular seat being defined by the first tubular member, the sleeve and the roller body surface, and a second tubular member concentrically surrounding the first member and defining therewith a second annular seat. An end of the sleeve projects into the second annular seat and a fluid-tight element is mounted in the first annular seat under compression, the sleeve end being gripped to prevent its radial expansion and thus loosening of the fluid-tight element in the first seat.
