  • Patent number: 4054213
Abstract: Apparatus for removing bulk material from a storage bed comprises a pivotal beam carrying a bucket wheel on one end for taking up the bulk material and an endless band conveying the bulk material to the other end of the beam, and a girder carrying an endless band conveying the bulk material received at one end of the girder to the other end thereof, whence it is removed. The one beam end is supported on a pair of driving wheels adjacent the bucket wheel, the driving wheels being symmetrically arranged with respect to the beam. A coupling supports the other end of the beam on the one end of the girder for pivoting about a vertical axis. Two wheels with stationary axles support the ends of the girder, the wheel axles extending parallel to the girder, one of the wheels being disposed in the vertical pivoting axis and the other wheel being a driving wheel supporting the other end of the girder.

  • Patent number: 4022267
Abstract: The curved roll rack receiving partly solidified metal from the mold in an operating continuous casting installation and defining a path guiding the stream of metal from a substantially vertical into a substantially horizontal direction of movement has two sections consecutively arranged along the path. Pivots secure respective, contiguously adjacent, terminal portions of the sections to a common support for angular movement about horizontal axes while bearings interposed between the remote terminal portions of the two sections permit sliding movement of the remote portions on the support in planes parallel to the associated horizontal axes when the rack thermally expands and contracts.

  • Patent number: 3995683
Abstract: Individual guide rolls or pairs of guide rolls in a common cage may be removed from the guide rack of a continuous casting machine by a hoisting mechanism mounted on a vehicle traveling in a path parallel to the path of the cast metal defined by the rack. The hoisting mechanism includes two track members pivotally mounted on the vehicle. A carrier equipped to be attached to a roll or cage, a slide, and a link chain for raising and lowering the carrier are associated with each track member. The slide moves on or in the track member, the carrier moves on the slide and is automatically coupled to and disengaged from the associated slide in such a manner that a roll attached to the carriers is guided by respective faces of the two slides into or out of the rack to a position which permits travel of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 3994660
Abstract: Carbon electrodes for the aluminum industry are shaped in a vibrating mold whose horizontal oscillations are restrained by tension members elongated in a horizontal direction and interposed between the vibrating mold and its stationary supporting structure to exert opposed forces on the mold in a common horizontal plane, thereby impeding horizontal vibration of the mold while permitting vibration in a vertical direction.

  • Patent number: 3992884
Abstract: A portion of the steam produced in a nuclear power plant at relatively low pressure is substantially adiabatically compressed, and the compressed, heated steam is employed for superheating the steam supplied to one or both stages of a steam turbine which drives the generator. • Patent number: 3989185
Abstract: A slurry-feeding arrangement for a continuously operating, vertical, centrifugal filter includes a dish-shaped receptacle coaxially mounted on the hub portion of the bowl and a distributor having the shape of an inverted cup enveloping the receptacle and connected to the hub by radial arms of a spider plate integral with the receptacle. The slurry to be filtered is centrifugally deposited from the receptacle on the inner face of the distributor, and thinning of the deposited film of slurry on the segments of the distributor face between the arms and the open end of the distributor is prevented by radially open recesses on either circumferential side of each arm in the inner distributor face.

  • Patent number: 3989092
Abstract: In a continuous casting installation, a casing wherein a primary roller apron section is mounted for guiding the cast metal strand is mounted on a framework for displacement in a direction transverse to the axis along which molten metal is cast from an ingot mold to form the strand. A curvilinear secondary roller apron section is axially aligned with the primary apron section and includes a support for the rollers of this section for further guiding the cast metal strand. The two sections are coupled together between an upper part of the secondary apron section support and an element of the casing in such a manner as to provide self-alignment of the two apron sections upon a relative displacement between the casing and the secondary roller apron section.

  • Patent number: 3986547
Abstract: An ingot mold is detachably fixed on an oscillating chassis. A first tubing supplies a fluid cooling medium to the mold and a second tubing is mounted on the oscillating chassis for feeding the cooling medium to the first tubing and for removing it therefrom. Means for interconnecting the first and second tubings comprises a first mount independent of the mold, to which the first tubing is attached, a second mount carried by, but independent of, the chassis, to which the second tubing is attached, and means for attaching the two superposed mounts to each other independently of the means fixing the mold on the chassis.

  • Patent number: 3982884
Abstract: A fluidized-bed system in which a main chamber and an auxiliary chamber communicate with each other through an opening in a common wall near the bottom of the main chamber. An endless traveling grate rises along the bottom of the main chamber and through the opening into the auxiliary chamber. Granular material is fed to the main chamber and fluidized to a first level by gas passing through apertures in the grate. The fluidized material flows through the common wall into the auxiliary chamber and is held to a lower second level there by a gas pressure higher than that in the disengaging space in the main chamber. The conveyor rises beyond the top of the bed in the auxiliary chamber and discharges lifted material from the auxiliary chamber into a water seal.

  • Patent number: 3974642
Abstract: Installation for producing motive power, operating on a hybrid cycle of gas and vapor such as steam. The installation has a heat accumulator for storing a heat-exchange fluid which can also act as a fluid fuel for a heat source adapted to heat the fluid of the heat accumulator. Heat can be drawn from the accumulator in the form of a flow of hot fluid, for use as required by a motive power producing machine which may be a vapor turbine. Fluid can also be drawn from the accumulator, to act as a fuel for the heat source, supplementary fluid being supplied to the accumulator to make up for the amount drawn off, whereby the accumulator contents are continuously renewed, to reduce thermal decomposition of the fluid fuel. The heat source can be a gas turbine for producing a basic power output, the turbine exhaust gases being used to heat the heat-exchange fluid by way of a heatexchanger connected to the heat accumulator.

  • Patent number: 3963895
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for effecting the guiding and oscillation movements of a machine part, especially a welding head of the type mounted for oscillating motion either by a movement of translation or by a pendular movement in a certain direction under the action of an impulse-control system, the movements of the said machine part being limited by direct mechanical contact of said part at pre-determined points, the duration of each period of travel of the part being equal to a selectively-determined fraction of the interval between two successive impulses from the said control system, the remaining fraction constituting a stopping time between two periods of travel of said machine part. The machine part is actuated by a driving fluid and distributor system and further comprises means for regulating the speed of the said part in its outward and return travel periods by acting on the flow-rate of the driving fluid. The principal application is concerned with the welding together of metal plates.
