    Abstract: A device is known for producing perforated nonwovens by means of hydrodynamic needling, with the perforation consisting primarily of sharply delimited holes in nonwoven of any dimension. The device consists of a smooth drum that supports and transports the nonwoven, said drum being provided with drainage openings to carry away liquid sprayed at high pressure by a nozzle beam from many outlets and having plastic elevations projecting from the plane of the smooth surface for producing the perforations in the nonwoven. The perforated nonwoven that can be produced by this device does not possess uniform strength in all directions. This uniform strength can be achieved simply by distributing the elevations nonuniformly over the drum to produce holes in both dimensions.

    Abstract: Bulked and liquid-permeable fleeces are used in the hygienic products industry for diapers and bandages. These fleeces have the purpose of rapidly absorbing fluid secreted from the body, storing it, and slowly giving it up to the absorber located beneath, uniformly over the entire surface of the absorber. As a result of the idea according to the invention, a fleece is formed from shrunk and/or crimped fibers together with non-shrinking man-made fibers, and the fleece is then compacted by a hydrodynamic compacting method without using binders, after which the fleece is dried and the shrinking ability present in the shrinking fibers and/or the crimping ability present in the crimping fibers in latent form are triggered immediately and/or subsequently by the action of temperature. This fleece can be manufactured economically and meets all of the requirements imposed upon it.

    Abstract: A screen drum design is known whose drum jacket consists of sheet metal strips running axially and whose width extends in the radial direction. These sheet metal strips must be permanently connected with the endwise bottoms to produce the drum jacket. According to the invention, this connection is made movable. For this purpose, an articulated ring (32) is used that consists of a number of connecting arms (13) mounted pivotably, said arms being connected with articulation at their free ends either with sheet metal strip structure (13, 14) or with bottoms (11, 12) that are located at a distance from the ends of sheet metal strips (13). In this way, movement is always possible between the drum jacket and bottoms (11, 12) to compensate for dimensional changes as a result of temperature fluctuations.

The strips can be joined together for example to form a honeycomb profile and thus uniformly transfer the hydrodynamic load developed during needling to the screen drum.

The tight sides of the first and second endless belts are directed conically toward one another along their lengths, so that the fiber web lying on the tight side of the first endless belt is increasingly compressed between the advancing first and second endless belts.

In the fleece according to the invention, which is particularly bulky and thus needs to be solidified, neither lower-melting binding fibers nor chemical binding agents are used. Also, the mechanical needling process which uses needles is eliminated because this reduces the bulk too severely. The desired bulk is retained by producing solidification by a single water needling process (when performed on one side), with the desired water pressure being no higher than 60 bars, preferably 20-30 bars.

This is accomplished with a hollow plate which has a large number of tube fittings on its outer circumference for the through flow of precisely constant amounts of liquid. These fittings, for treating different working widths of the applicator, must be provided at least partially with valves to close them. In order to keep the distributing plate small in diameter and simultaneously to be able to close one through flow channel or another, special channels are provided in the plate that are easy to close and can be controlled exactly with respect to liquid flow.

The foam which then suddenly forms is then drawn off by a vacuum or suction together with the liquid still in the pile from the pile side of the web.

    Abstract: Fiber fleeces made of synthetic fibers or of natural fibers are compacted after their formation, for example, by carding or by simply being laid down in endless fiber fleeces. In the fleece according to the invention, which is intended to be voluminous yet compact, neither low-melting binding fibers nor chemical binders are used for the purpose. The mechanical needling method, i.e. with needles, cannot be used, however, because the volume is reduced too sharply. The desired volume is retained and the double fleece desired for hygienic products, for example, is achieved by the fleece produced, for example, on a card machine or aerodynamically initially being laid down on a previously compacted fleece, such as spun fleece made of endless fibers for example, as the carrier fleece and then being compacted in a continuous processing method by water needling at a water pressure of at least 100 bars and, preferably 180 bars, and thus being simultaneously joined to the carrier fleece.

    Abstract: A stuffer box crimping unit provided with a crimping chamber and two feed rolls associated with the chamber and located upstream thereof, has pressure disks associated on both sides in side walls of the crimping chamber at the level of the nip between the two feed rolls. These two disks are not only made from a material provided for wear, but also from a separate carrier disk made of appropriate material. The carrier disk is a wear element shaped like a lid and made of the nonferrous metal intended for wear in the direction facing the pressure roll nip. This wear element is readily replaced and there is no need any longer for regrinding the wear surfaces of pressure disks so that the disks can be reused.
