Patent number: 9239149Abstract: A recessed luminaire is described. The luminaire may include an aiming system allowing a rotation angle and/or a tilt angle of a light source to be adjusted while the light source is in operation. Additionally, the luminaire includes a light shield that is coupled to the aiming system such that the light shield may move in relation to the tilt angle and the orientation of the light source. The aiming system may be further coupled to a support panel such that rotation of the aiming system is provided by a rotatable coupling between one or more leaf Springs of the aiming system, and an upper surface of the support panel.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 2014Date of Patent: January 19, 2016Assignee: Focal Point, LLCInventors: Edwin Vice, David E. Publication number: 20150103532Abstract: In an embodiment, a light fixture is provided that includes a housing, a lens configured to mount to the housing, a plate, and a light source located inside the housing. The housing may include a top panel, a pair of side panels, and a pair of end panels. The lens may have a length shorter than a longitudinal length of the housing, thereby creating a gap between the lens and at least one end panel of the housing. The plate may be attached to one of the pair of end panels. The plate may include a flat portion that attaches to the end panel and an angled portion that is angled away from the end panel. The angled portion may cover the gap between the lens and the housing.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 11, 2013Publication date: April 16, 2015Applicant: Focal Point LLCInventors: Stephen Krotseng, Jeremy Taylor, Michael SanFacon

Publication number: 20110211343Abstract: In an embodiment, a recessed light fixture includes a structural reflector and two end caps that form a light fixture housing. A first, second and third optics areas are provided. At least one first light source type is mounted near the first optics area. A second light source type is mounted near the second optics area and the second light source type is mounted near the third optics areas, the second light source type having a light output level substantially lower than the light output level of the first light source type. A diffuser is configured to sealably mount to the light fixture housing so as to substantially seal an interior portion of the light fixture. In operation, the light fixture can be switch between an ambient mode and an examination mode while providing a cost effective and attractive design.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 10, 2011Publication date: September 1, 2011Applicant: Focal Point LLCInventors: Casey Chung, Jill Cody, Brandon Stolte, Marcelino Pena, Michael Thornton

Publication number: 20090122551Abstract: A light fixture is configured to provide indirect lighting from a light source through use of a light shield. The light shield blocks a percentage of the light emitted from the light source at a center of the light shield. The light shield decreasing blocks light emitted from the light source along a path between the center and an outer edge of the light shield.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 12, 2009Publication date: May 14, 2009Applicant: Focal Point, LLCInventor: Casey Chung

Publication number: 20060285340Abstract: A recessed luminaire includes a housing with one or more vents. The one or more vents may be coupled to a ventilation system so that the luminaires can provide ventilation as well as illumination. The housing supports a potentially flammable diffuser with one or more fusible links. When subjected to elevated temperatures, at least a portion of the one or more fusible links will soften so the diffuser may drop down.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 17, 2005Publication date: December 21, 2006Applicant: Focal Point LLCInventor: Peter Thornton

Publication number: 20040022060Abstract: A light-fixture shade-assembly mounting apparatus is operatively coupled to a light fixture via a plurality of coupling members, such as hinged limbs. A hinged limb may be coupled to a shade-assembly via a peg inserted through a bore. A locking mechanism may secure the shade assembly into a normal-operation position and may allow the shade assembly to be lowered into a bulb-replacement position. The locking mechanism may include a locking cam having an angled surface so that, as the locking cam engages a portion of the light fixture and rotates, the inclined surface of the locking cam will cause the position of the shade assembly to become higher or lower with respect to the light fixture. The locking mechanism may include a visual indication, such as an arrow, which allows a person to determine the locking cam's orientation relative to a locked position and an unlocked position.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 1, 2002Publication date: February 5, 2004Applicant: Focal Point LLCInventor: Casey Chung
