  • Patent number: 6063418
Abstract: A method and a container for long-term storage in a state in which harmful insects do not propagate, in a case in which grains such as unpolished rice or the like are filled and stored. An inner bag (10) made of a flexible material is accommodated in an outer bag (12) which has high-strength. After grains are filled in the inner bag, the inner bag (10) is filled with carbon dioxide gas and is closed. The grains are stored in a state in which harmful insects are exterminated. It is preferable from the standpoint of the insecticidal effect that the inner portion of the inner bag (10) is able to maintain a carbon dioxide gas concentration of 40% or more for 7 days or more. Because the inner bag has the property of a CO.sub.2 permeation amount of less than or equal to 6300 cc/m.sup.2 .multidot.24 hr 1 atm, an oxygen-deficient state can be maintained.

  • Patent number: 5376424
Abstract: A thermal insulating material is packed in a sealing bag composed of an obverse face material and a reverse face material, wherein each of the obverse face material and reverse face material is preferably made of a metal foil having a thickness in the range of 3 to 50 micrometers and which is sandwiched by a sealant layer of plastic film adhesively affixed to one side thereof and by a surface layer of plastic film adhesively affixed to the other side thereof (hereinafter termed a metal foil composite plastic film), and then a similarly constructed metal foil composite plastic film, or preferably one having a number of holes therein, is stuck on the outer surface or inner surface of the obverse face material, to thus obtain a vacuum thermal insulating panel. The vacuum thermal insulating panel thus obtained can prevent permeation of gas from the outside, reflect heat, and prevent heat conduction along the outer surface.

  • Patent number: 5056124
Abstract: Method and apparatus for enabling fluid material contained in a package to be examined in a non-destructive manner to see whether there is any unacceptable alteration in the material. This examination is accomplished by shaking the package so that the package and its contents vibrate at the natural resonance frequency thereof, exposing the package to an irradiation of ultra-soft X-ray beams while the package is vibrating at the resonant frequency, either immediately after the package contents begin to be agitated by shaking or immediately after the vibration is stopped and it ceases to be agitated, detecting the strength of X-rays transmitted through the package and its contents, coverting the transmitted X-rays to a corresponding analog signal, and determining any alteration by comparing the analog signal against the refernece signal previously obtained in the same manner as described above for a like package with unaltered contents.

  • Patent number: 5048846
Abstract: A method for filling gas release valves with sealant for affixing to packaging containers to be filled with a commodity which will generate a small amount of gases during shelf storage. The gas release valve having an apertured base film and a valve film superimposed on the base film to define a channel therebetween is attached to the container in registry with a vent in the container such that the valve may allow the gases given off by the commodity to escape to the exterior through the vent and the channel when the gas pressure rises beyond the atmospheric pressure. Before the gas release valve is attached to the container, the valve is sealed by inserting a nozzle into said channel through the aperture in the base film, and introducing a fluid sealant through the nozzle into the channel intermediate one peripheral edge of the channel and the circumference of the aperture, thereby filling the channel with the fluid sealant.
