Patent number: 4623188Abstract: A sun visor for an automotive vehicle has a generally flat visor body of approximately rectangular contour. It is separated into an upper part and a lower part which are movable along guide pins toward and away from each other effectively lengthening or shortening the height of the visor body. Pins projecting from the lower edge of the upper part are received in pin receivers opening at the upper edge of the lower part, so that the upper part and lower part may be moved together and apart. A tongue-like extension projects from one side surface or from both side surfaces of the upper part down past the corresponding side surface of the lower part, and the extension is of a length so that when the upper and lower parts are separated, the tongue-like extension covers the gap between them.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 1984Date of Patent: November 18, 1986Assignee: Gebr. Happich GmbHInventors: Peter Juraschek, Manfred Nowak

Patent number: 4610443Abstract: The body of a sun visor is reinforced with a generally rectangular wire frame. At one corner of the frame is an injection-molded plastic mounting housing molded on the reinforcing frame and that housing receives the mounting shaft for supporting the visor in a vehicle. The wire frame has separated ends which extend past each other and this region of the frame is disposed in an injection molding cavity in which the mounting housing is to be molded. A U-shaped spring is also placed in the injection molding cavity and its side arms extend past the wire frame. A peg in the mounting housing extending through the spring defines the opening in the molded housing past the spring in which the mounting shaft for the visor is received. With the region of the frame and the spring in place in the injection mold for the mounting housing, moldable plastic is injected into the cavity of the mold and the mounting housing is directly molded to the reinforcing frame and the spring.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 1983Date of Patent: September 9, 1986Assignee: Gebr. Patent number: 4610477Abstract: A sun visor for automotive vehicles with one or more mounting brackets which are formed within the body of the sun visor. The sun visor is a molded foam body rigidified by a reinforcing insert. The mounting brackets for the visor are preferably formed by plastic injection molding, and the visor body is formed by foaming over the insert and the brackets. The mounting brackets each have at least one insertion opening which accommodates a respective mounting shaft or pin for connecting the sun visor to the body of the vehicle. To prevent foaming material from entering into a bracket insertion opening during the production of the sun visor, the mounting brackets are formed with an integral extension surrounding the area of the insertion opening. The integral extension protrudes out of the region of the sun visor body being foamed. After the foaming step in the manufacturing of the sun visor is completed, the integral extension is removed from the mounting bracket.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 1985Date of Patent: September 9, 1986Assignee: Gebr. Patent number: 4591956Abstract: A sun visor for an automotive vehicle having a swivel bearing at one upper longitudinal edge region. The swivel bearing includes a non-metallic, plastic bearing part having a bearing borehole for the metallic sun-visor shaft and a parallel plug opening for an electric contact element. The electric contact element in the plug opening is connected to one of the wires from the light source which illuminates the mirror on the sun-visor body. A passage channel between the bearing borehole and the plug opening has a contact projection on the contact element biased through it to project into the bearing borehole and contact the shaft therein. The shaft has a recess extending partially around it at a region along it such that the contact projection will or will not make electric contact with the visor shaft depending upon the swivel position of the visor body.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1984Date of Patent: May 27, 1986Assignee: Gebr. Patent number: 4582356Abstract: The disclosure concerns a sun visor including a visor body which is adapted to slide axially along a pivot-bearing housing defined along one longitudinal edge of the sun visor body, whereby the sun visor can be swiveled around that pivot-bearing housing and the sun-visor body can move along the pivot bearing housing. Inside the pivot-bearing housing is disposed one arm of the support shaft for the visor. A sleeve that is around the shaft and inside the pivot-bearing housing is slidable along the shaft and is fixed to the pivot-bearing housing by a spring which acts upon the sleeve through a window in the pivot-bearing housing. A second slide member is positioned toward the free end of the shaft. The end of the pivot-bearing housing supports a fastened on clip, which closes that end of the pivot-bearing housing. The reinforcing insert for the sun-visor body is also supported between flanges formed on the pivot-bearing housing.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1984Date of Patent: April 15, 1986Assignees: Gebr. Patent number: 4563374Abstract: The invention concerns an elongate decorative and/or protective covering strip particularly for the exterior of an automotive vehicle. The strip is a single piece blow molded strip with a bottom that is applied to a surface and a top that is exposed. To provide length compensation due to temperature variations as between the top and the bottom of the strip and to absorb expansion differences as between the strip and the vehicle body, the bottom of the strip has a plurality of transversely extending groove shaped depressions defined in it along its length. At least some depressions in the bottom of the strip are of a height to extend nearly to the top of the strip and to thereby support the top of the strip against deformation. The depressions may have various heights toward the top of the strip. Transversely extending depressions may alternate with round depressions along the length of the strip.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 1984Date of Patent: January 7, 1986Assignee: Gebr, Happich GmbHInventors: Willi Treber, Rolf Schlenz, Gunter Fritsch, Joseph Hansmann

Patent number: 4512605Abstract: A sun visor includes a flat sun visor body which is moved between its use position over the windshield and its non-use position above the windshield by being slid between those positions along a guide rail, and without being swiveled around a bearing. A bearing bracket which projects above and rearwardly of the rear surface of the visor body terminates in a guide from which a plurality of guide pins project laterally. The guide pins are received in guide grooves of rails disposed between the ceiling of the passenger compartment and the roof of the vehicle. The pins move along the rails and guide the sun visor body so that its leading or front edge moves down over the windshield, while its trailing or rear edge moves forward along the ceiling of the vehicle. There are two pairs of the pins which project from opposite surfaces of the guide. At least one of the pairs of pins is positioned in a common borehole and are spring biased apart.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 1983Date of Patent: April 23, 1985Assignee: Gebr. Patent number: 4458459Abstract: The disclosure concerns a sectional molding of an elastic material, used for spanning the gap between a pane of glass and the adjacent panel in a window opening of a motor vehicle, or the like. The sectional molding has a generally "I" shaped cross-section, including an ascending web in the gap, a transverse web spanning the space between the pane and the panel and mounting flanges away from the transverse web and extending out from the sides of the ascending web. The mounting flanges are more pliable than the webs and are folded back toward the transverse web upon installation of the sectional molding in the gap. Stiffeners are provided in the ascending and transverse web. Projections on the leading surfaces of the mounting flanges help to secure the same in the gap. A bead at the inserted end of the ascending web anchors the same in sealant in the gap.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 1982Date of Patent: July 10, 1984Assignee: Gebr.
