  • Patent number: 4172429
Abstract: An arrangement for marking articles or workpieces, particularly hot workpieces, such as coils of sheet metal with series of symbols which are individually applied in templates. The latter are in the form of symbols applied in a cylindrical portion and in a flange-like portion of a movable angle ring which is adjustable vertically and sideways. A spray nozzle is associated with each of the portions. The angle ring is connected to a trunnion fixed in an arm which is adjustable vertically and sideways by piston-cylinder units. One piston-cylinder unit is centered in a frame which is movable on a track by driven wheels, and the piston of this unit mounts a lifting table. Another piston-cylinder unit is connected to the aforementioned arm. One vertical spray nozzle is located above the flange-like portion of the angle ring on the outer end of the arm.

  • Patent number: 4168714
Abstract: An apparatus for treating grease-covered rolling mill scale, according to which the rolling mill scale to be treated is weighed, thoroughly mixed with from 10 to 20% by weight of a solvent e.g. a fluorized chlorohydrocarbon, while finely distributing the greases in the thus obtained mixture. The mixture is then added in a continuous manner to a bath containing such solvent, and is distributed therein. The rolling mill scale is then slowly moved out of the solvent containing bath while mixing the rolling mill scale with an oil-free solvent of the above mentioned type passed in counter-current flow to the last mentioned mill scale. The movement of the thus obtained last mentioned mixture is continued while causing the solvent to drip off out of the grease-free rolling mill scale. The rolling mill scale is then heated, and the residual solvent is driven out of the rolling mill scale.

  • Patent number: 4164873
Abstract: A method of and device for ultrasonically checking a workpiece while employing an electrodynamic sound converter including a checking head and a coil adapted to be energized to create a magnetic field, according to which during the checking operation the workpiece in a continuous movement relatively is passed by the testing or checking head of the electrodynamic sound converter. The coil for generating the magnetic field is energized by an alternating current or an intermittent or alternating direct current. Furthermore, the electrodynamic sound converter in conformity with the intensity of the magnetization of the coil is switched on and off in such a way that a sound converter is switched on when the magnetization has reached a predetermined value, and is switched off as soon as the magnetization drops below another predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 4126361
Abstract: A large antifriction bearing composed of a plurality of segments for absorbing forces generating axial, radial and pitching forces, in which each of the individual segments is formed by two bearing ring segments. Within the region of the roller path of the large antifriction bearing one bearing ring segment has a cross section of a substantially one-piece T-shaped profile, whereas the other bearing ring segment in cross section is designed as a U-shaped profile partially surrounding the flange of the T-shaped profile. Holding ring segments are detachably connected to the the ends of the two free legs of the U-shaped profile and extend into the region of the web of the T-shaped profile. The bearing ring segments which abut each other and form the large antifriction bearing are guided by runningpath wires inserted into the bearing ring segment and bridging the areas abutting each other.

  • Patent number: 4113178
Abstract: A resilient rail connection on railway ties or the like with guiding plates located laterally of and adjacent to the rail. Each of the guiding plates along a section perpendicular to the longitudinal extension of the rail has a first end portion of an upwardly opening angular shape and an oppositely located second end portion for cooperation with a spring element. In fully assembled condition of the rail connection, the angular first end portion of each guiding plate rests in a correspondingly shaped recess arranged in the rail supporting under-structure such as a railway tie while being located remote from the rail, whereas the second end portion of each guiding plate is adjacent the foot portion of the rail and is under preload engaged by the spring element which resiliently rests on the same under-structure as the first end portion and urges the second end portion of the guiding plate upwardly.

  • Patent number: 4109361
Abstract: An elongated unhardened blank is passed between a first pair of rollers where it is conductively heated by supplying current to one of the rollers. Thereafter, the blank is further heated by induction and then passed between a second pair of rollers where it is shaped so as to impart thereto a predetermined cross-sectional configuration. The rollers of the second pair are profiled and the blank is maintained at an elevated temperature by supplying current to one of the rollers. After shaping, the blank is passed between a third pair of rollers. Current is again supplied to one of these rollers. The other roller is of a diameter corresponding to that desired for the finished annular articles and the blank is coiled about this roller. This latter roller is partially immersed in a quenching medium so that the blank is quenched and thereby hardened as it is being coiled. Coiling is continued until the number of convolutions corresponds to the number of annular articles which are to be produced.

  • Patent number: 4072505
Abstract: A method of slagging off slag, especially treatment slag, from metal baths, particularly iron baths, in vessels such as crucibles and ladles, by means of a rabble while the vessel is slightly tilted. To this end, a slag-free zone starting at the lifted side of the vessel is created by means of a rinsing gas acting on the bath surface on the lifted side of the vessel so that the slag which originally covered the slag-free zone is partially displaced toward the vessel side opposite the slag-free bath surface. The rabble is then lowered onto the slag-free portion of the metal bath and while engaging the slag from behind, the rabble is pushed so as to force the slag over the vessel rim section opposite the slag-free bath surface.
