Abstract: A urinary catheter (20) includes a shaft (22) having a hydrophilic material and a distal end and a proximal end with a lumen running between the two. The proximal end includes an eyelet (24) that is in fluid communication with the lumen. A handle is attached to the distal end of the shaft and includes a first grip member (28) and a second grip member (32) configured so that the first grip member pivots relative to the second grip member. A sleeve (34) defines an interior chamber (45), and the shaft is positioned within the interior chamber. The sleeve is sealed to the first grip member so that when the first grip member is pivoted, the sleeve is torn open.
Abstract: An ostomy barrier includes an adhesive layer having a body-facing side, a distal side opposite to the body-facing side, and an opening, a seal substantially aligned with the opening, the seal having an aperture configured to receive a stoma therein, and a flexible connector extending between the seal and the adhesive layer to connect the seal to the adhesive layer. The flexible connector formed from a flexible material to allow relative movement between the seal and the adhesive layer.

Abstract: A package for a medical device such as an intermittent catheter has a case with open and closed ends. A hinge connects a cap to the case to permit movement of the cap between open and closed positions. A seal connected to one of the cap and case is engageable with the other to maintain a sterile environment inside the package. The seal can be repeatedly made and broken whenever the user closes or opens the cap. The case includes a pair of slots at the open end. A pair of latches is formed in the cap. The latches fit into the slots to prevent lateral forces from distorting the cap when the cap is closed. A first use indication label spans a depression in the outer contour of a closed cap and case, assuring visual confirmation of breach of the label upon first opening of the cap.

Abstract: A urinary catheter assembly includes a catheter member and a sleeve member receiving at least a portion of the catheter member and having a greater flexibility than the catheter member. The assembly also includes a stylet having a proximal end movably positioned within the catheter member, with a distal portion of the stylet being positioned outside of the catheter member. The assembly is movable between a compact configuration and an extended configuration. In the compact configuration, the distal portion of the stylet is positioned outside of the catheter member and at least partially within the sleeve member. In the extended configuration, a larger distal portion of the stylet is positioned outside of the catheter member than in the compact configuration. The assembly may be in the extended configuration for introduction into a urethra or may be advanced through a urethra prior to being moved to the extended configuration.
Abstract: A fecal collection device includes a barrel with a waste drain conduit attached thereto. A drain opening is defined between passages of the barrel and the waste drain conduit. An irrigation conduit is connected to a source of lavage liquid. A trocar plug has a tapered distal end and moves between insertion, irrigation and flushing positions within the barrel passage. When in the insertion position, the tapered distal end of the trocar plug extends from the distal end of the barrel. When in the irrigation position, the irrigation conduit may provide lavage liquid to the barrel passage while the trocar plug covers a majority of the drain opening. When in a flushing position, the trocar plug covers less of the drain opening than when the trocar plug is in the irrigation position.
Abstract: A trans-anal irrigation (TAI) system adapted for self-use includes an irrigation head supplied with water from a reservoir by a pump or by gravity feed. The irrigation head has either internal or external structures for releasably retaining the head in a user's rectum during the water flow portion of a TAI process. A guide member arm may be provided for manipulating the irrigation head for both insertion and removal. The irrigation head is reliably attached to the guide member arm. The guide member arm may include an integral manual pump.

Abstract: A package for a medical device such as an intermittent catheter has a case which is closed at one end and open at the other end. A cap is connected to the case by a hinge to permit selectable movement of the cap between an open position, wherein access is provided to the open end of the case, and a closed position, wherein the cap prevents access to the open end of the case. A seal is connected to one of the cap and case. The seal is engageable with the other of the cap and case when the cap is closed to form a barrier that maintains a sterile environment inside the package. The seal can be repeatedly made and broken whenever the user closes or opens the cap, respectively. The case includes a pair of slots at the open end. A pair of latches are formed in the cap. The latches fit into the slots to prevent lateral forces from distorting the cap when the cap is closed.
