  • Patent number: 11167967
Abstract: A traction control system for a pallet truck includes a traction motor, an operator controlled input device configured to selectively accelerate the pallet truck in both a forward direction of vehicle travel and a reverse direction of vehicle travel, and an operator controlled actuation device configured to place the pallet truck in an auxiliary mode of operation. A vehicle controller may monitor a speed of the pallet truck and, in response to receiving an actuation signal, command the traction motor to maintain the speed of the pallet truck at an intermediate rate of travel without actuation of the operator controlled input device.

  • Patent number: 11161535
Abstract: A load wheel assembly for a pallet truck includes a first load arm that rotates about an axis of rotation, and a load wheel rotationally coupled to an end of the first load arm opposite from the axis of rotation. The load wheel supports a fork at an elevation above the load wheel. Additionally, the load wheel assembly includes a second load arm pivotally coupled to the first load arm at the axis of rotation and forming a load arm angle, and an adjustment mechanism further coupling the second load arm to the first load arm. The adjustment mechanism varies the load arm angle formed between the first load arm and the second load arm to adjust the elevation of the fork above the load wheel.

  • Publication number: 20210170841
Abstract: Lift trucks can have an operator compartment designed with an ergonomically improved cab door having a door frame, a set of glass sheets, upper and lower hinges, a handle, a door catch assembly, a door support member, and one or more operator handlebars. The door support member and operator handlebars can be sized and/or positioned to provide structural strength to the door. The cab door can have an unobstructed door design to facilitate maximum operator visibility. The catch assembly can maintain the door in an open position and the operator can readily close the door when desired. In one embodiment, the door includes a vertical operator handlebar and a horizontal operator handlebar that facilitate easy entry into and exit from the operator compartment without unduly obscuring operator visibility through the door.

  • Publication number: 20210101595
Abstract: A vehicle includes a vehicle controller communicating over a first communication system with actuators for changing the state of vehicle systems. A signal module communicates with the vehicle controller via the first communication system. One or more signal sources communicate with the signal module via a second communication system, and transmit signals to the signal module. Based on one or more signals and one or more user inputs, the signal module generates and transmits control signals to the vehicle controller. The vehicle controller actuates the actuator based on the control signal.

  • Publication number: 20210002114
Abstract: A system for a pallet truck load wheel mechanism comprises a logic device and first and second sensor arrangements. The first and second sensor arrangements include first and second sensing fields that define first and second edges of an operability window, respectively. The logic device has an operable state indicating that the load wheel mechanism can raise a pallet lifting device and an inoperable state indicating that the load wheel mechanism should not raise the pallet lifting device. The logic device is initialized in the operable state and is configured to change to the inoperable state in response to each time the first sensor arrangement detects an edge of a board intersecting, the first edge of the operability window and to change to the operable state in response to each time the second sensor arrangement detects an edge of a board intersecting the second edge of the operability window.

  • Publication number: 20200398882
Abstract: Apparatuses and systems that yield a zero torque steer for a pallet truck or similar vehicle are disclosed. In an embodiment, a motor is attached to a final drive. The final drive is equipped to a steer assembly such as a tiller that includes a drive wheel that is offset from the steering axis. The offset is determined on the basis of the drive wheel radius, divided by the ratio of the final drive. The ratio of the final drive is determined by selection of the sizes of a first and second gear. In embodiments, the first and second gears provide a right angle drive. The drive wheel creates a torque due to the offset that counteracts torque imposed by operation of the drive motor. Other embodiments may be described and/or claimed.

  • Publication number: 20200399105
Abstract: Apparatuses, systems and methods associated with powered vehicles are disclosed herein. In examples, a system for controlling a vehicle may include sensors and a processor coupled to the sensors. The processor may identify one or more values received from the one or more sensors, wherein the one or more values are associated with one or more conditions of the vehicle and/or the vehicle's environment, and determine, based on the one or more values, a net resultant force vector of one or more forces acting on a center of mass of the vehicle. The processor may further determine a relationship between the net resultant force vector and a stability polygon that is superimposed at a base of the vehicle, and determine whether to limit one or more of a speed, rate of change, and/or travel amount for one or more of the operational systems controlled by the processor based on the relationship between the net resultant force vector and the stability polygon. Other examples may be described and/or claimed.
