The combiner moves between the operating position and a storage position. The cover moves between an open position and a closed position to protect the combiner in its storage position with the cover in its closed position. The system includes a drive to move the cover between its open and closed positions. The drive includes a main lever and a support lever that is pivoted with a moving end to the main lever and with a fixed end to the housing. The main lever is pivoted with a cover end to the cover and with a driver end to a rotational drive to drive an essential linear movement of the cover end of the main lever during the movement of the cover between its open and closed positions.

    Abstract: A charge transfer system includes an on-board vehicle motor system and a plug in supply. The on-board vehicle motor system includes a first motor including a plurality of stator windings, a second motor including a plurality of stator windings, a first inverter having a plurality of switch legs, a second inverter having a plurality of switch legs, a controller, and an on-board power supply. The plug-in supply is connected between at least one switch leg of the first inverter and at least one switch leg of the second inverter. The controller modulates the switch legs of the first and second inverters such that electric current flows through at least one stator winding of the first or second motor to charge the on-board power supply. The current flow can also alternate in phase with plug-in supply polarity to produce a stable stator flux vector angle preventing motor rotation during charge transfer.

    Abstract: A device used in laser display systems for despeckling includes a liquid crystal cell disposed in sandwiched relation between an input and a grounded electrode. A glass cover overlies each electrode. In a first embodiment, the cell may include vertically or randomly oriented liquid crystal molecules and the liquid crystal cell is larger than a laser beam in size for random phase modulation or retardation. Light loss due to diffraction and scattering are substantially eliminated in the absence of pixel structures. In another embodiment, the input electrode is divided into two separate parts. Vertically aligned liquid crystal molecules rotate and follow field fringes created by applying a first voltage to the input electrodes. Additional embodiments include a device that has two wedge-shaped liquid crystal layers, a device that includes plural field-induced gradient index prisms, a device including a tilted mirror, and composite devices.

When in the service position, the display assembly is removable from the housing without disassembly of the housing. When not in said service position, the display assembly can be movable between an in-use position (in which the display element is substantially exposed outside the housing but is physically secured by the housing) and a storage position (in which the display assembly is substantially enclosed and protected by the housing).
