  • Patent number: 5410845
Abstract: A vibration control device of an active type for a structure comprising a first additional mass body movable relative to the structure; spring means for giving a period to the additional mass body which synchronizes with the natural period of the structure; a second additional mass body supported by and movable relative to the first additional mass body; and drive means for applying a control force between the first and second additional mass bodies in response to a sensed vibrations of an earthquake or the like. Laminated rubber support provides main spring means for synchronizing with the assumed natural period of the structure. Auxiliary spring means, such as laminated rubber or coil springs, is separately provided for fine tuning the period of the device. The responses from the structure are reduced by adjusting the difference between the assumed and actual natural periods of the structure by use of the auxiliary spring means and by providing the control force from the drive means.

  • Patent number: 5358328
Abstract: By rotating mixing blade units having blades inclined in opposite directions, pulverulent materials such as cement can be effectively mixed with a liquid under the most suitable condition to produce a desirable mixture. The blades of the mixing blade units are in spaced opposed relation to each other and formed so as to have their front edges spaced at a larger distance than their rear edges relative to the direction of rotation, thereby to cause the parts of the mixture around the respective mixing blade units to come into collision with each other between the mixing blade units. A mixture of high quality in which the pulverulent materials are uniformly dispersed without being left in the form of immiscible lumps with the liquid can be obtained.

  • Patent number: 5356215
Abstract: Spiral-shaped screw blades disposed one on another on the bottom of a mixing container are rotated at a high speed for agitating pulverulent materials including aggregate and water to form a mixture. A rapid current of the mixture of the pulverulent materials and water is brought about by the rotating screw blades and causes the aggregate in the mixture to serve as a mixing agitator like milling balls used in a ball mill, to thereby effectively break up lumps of the pulverulent material which are immiscible with water and which are inevitably formed by initially mixing the pulverulent material with water.

  • Patent number: 5327736
Abstract: The method stores heat in ice by freezing water through its direct contact with a hardly-water-soluble refrigerant; i.e., water is mixed with the refrigerant at a high pressure to produce a liquid mixture while preventing evaporation of the refrigerant, and the liquid mixture is jetted from a nozzle into a space at a lower pressure, whereby the refrigerant evaporates at the lower pressure and the water in the liquid mixture is frozen into sherbet-like ice and dispersed over a wider area than in the case of non-sherbert-like ice. A device based on the method uses a heat-insulating water tank whose top space above water level therein is kept at a pressure P2 lower than saturation pressure P0 (P2<P0) of the refrigerant for water freezing point 0.degree.C. A mixer mixes the refrigerant of liquid phase and water at a pressure P1 which is higher than the saturation pressure P0 of the refrigerant for water freezing point 0.degree.C.

  • Patent number: 5289626
Abstract: A method and apparatus for securing a foundation anchor to a foundation wall. Tension members comprising the foundation anchor are individually fixed to a plurality of stacked anchor plates positioned over an access hole in a foundation wall by use of threaded fasteners. The method comprises inserting each tension member through an anchor plate hole and separately fixing each tension member to at least one anchor plate. A plurality of tension members are permitted to be threaded with threaded fasteners in a manner calculated to reduce the bearing load exerted on the threaded fasteners. Further, by selectively staggering the threaded fasteners over a plurality of stacked anchor plates, the surface area of the anchor plates can be reduced to a minimum, thereby permitting a proportionate reduction in the size of the foundation wall access hole.
