  • Patent number: 4209978
Abstract: A method and a device for bending a rod-shaped link blank into a substantially closed chain link, particularly while at the same time hooking the link blank into a chain end. According to the invention, the blank is brought into a first receiving position with one of its end portions located between, on the one hand, two rotatable abutment rollers disposed at a distance from each other and, on the other hand, a bending tool movable back and forth transversely between said abutment rollers. The bending tool is then brought to a position between the two rollers so as to bend said one end portion of the link blank.

  • Patent number: 4203323
Abstract: In a flowmeter system in which a fluid stream causes a ball to circulate in a guide track at a speed proportional to the volume flow rate of the stream, a signal is produced each time the ball passes a sensing point. The speed of the ball is continually measured, and from stored data representing the fluid volume passing through the flowmeter per signal as a function of the signal repetition rate, the volume associated with each signal is determined. The volumes thus determined during a given period are summed to give the total volume over the given period.

  • Patent number: 4185454
Abstract: A device for inserting a link stud into a chain link to permit subsequent fastening of the link stud in the chain link in the region of the stud and/or by welding same. According to the invention, a pivotably mounted arm is arranged in operative connection to a stud fastening station, the arm carrying at its free end an operable holding means for holding said link stud and being pivotable back and forth between a collecting position adjacent a link stud feeding device and a delivery position adjacent the stud fastening station, and the holding means is resiliently mounted at the free end of the arm so as to enable guiding of the holding means into a well-defined position relative to a chain link situated in the stud fastening station.

  • Patent number: 4182189
Abstract: A method for attaining a predetermined compressive stress is achieved by a device in the form of a washer, coating, or plug which as a function of pressure does not yield significantly, but when a predetermined pressure is reached, a sudden change in structure takes place which effects detonation of an explosive mixture which detonation is indicated by a sound, a puff of smoke, a change of appearance, a sudden release of heat, or an instantaneous increase in friction. The device includes a porous brittle body in which an explosive substance has been absorbed, and also preferably hard particles that aid in effecting detonation when the porous body goes through a physical change. The detonation can also join contact surfaces together, serve as an indication of desired prestress or torque applied to a fastener, to indicate a load limit, and the like.

  • Patent number: 4175228
Abstract: A method of hot bending a generally straight wire blank of a material being brittle in cold condition into a wire element having straight end portions and coils formed therebetween. According to the invention the rod blank is hot bent without a mandrel by clamping the end portions of the rod blank by means of two clamping jaws. The rod blank is heated to a softening temperature in the central wire portion which is to form the coils of the finished wire element, while the end portions are kept at a lower temperature. During the bending process at least one of the clamping jaws is brought along a movement path adapted to the desired coil formation.

  • Patent number: 4141211
Abstract: A traversing device in a plant for manufacturing chains. A carriage for carrying the chain end under production is movable along a guide on at least one side of a rectilinear production line comprising different work stations. The guide is mounted on at least one traverse beam movable transversely relative to the rectilinear production line, so that the chain end can be moved aside from the rectilinear production line to at least one additional work station, e.g., for re-orientation of the last link element.

  • Patent number: 4062389
Abstract: A screw tightening apparatus comprising a motor-driven tool, a screw magazine for screws affixed to a strip-like carrier, and a screw advancing and tightening means for advancing the screws one at a time to a standby position in which a motor-driven bit may engage the screw for applying the same. A bell crank has a spring arm for advancing the screw strip and a drive arm driven by a projection on a plunger against the force of a feed spring to a cocked position, preparatory to advancement of the screw strip, the cocked position being maintained by a pivoted pawl which has a hook that locks the bell crank in such cocked position. A second projection on the plunger member engages the pawl to effect unlocking thereof near the end of a retracting stroke of the plunger member, whereby the feed spring drives the bell crank to advance the strip. A novel means for unlocking a spring-loaded axially slidable lock sleeve is provided.
