Abstract: The present invention provides a composition and a method for cleaving a peptide from a solid support resin. Hydrochloric acid in an organic water miscible solvent is used to cleave the peptide-resin attachment. Optionally, trifluoroethanol or hexafluoroisopropanol may be added to the cleavage composition to improve results. When using the present cleavage composition, an evaporation or other step to remove carboxylic byproducts is not necessary following the cleavage reaction. After the resin is filtered out of the cleavage mixture, the peptide may be immediately precipitated with water.

Abstract: A check valve for a fluid administration system. A connector includes a housing, and first and second conduits defined by the housing, wherein the first conduit is in fluid communication with the second conduit. A check valve is disposed within the housing and includes a first body portion defining a first passageway for fluid flow, and a second body portion defining a second passageway for fluid flow. The first and second passageways are in fluid communication with one another and the second body portion is movable relative to the first body portion between first and a second positions. When the second body portion is in the first position, fluid flow may occur in a first direction, but not in a second direction substantially opposite to the first direction. When the second body portion is in the second position, fluid flow may occur in the second direction.
Abstract: Dye-peptide conjugates useful for diagnostic imaging and therapy are disclosed. The dye-peptide conjugates include several cyanine dyes with a variety of bis- and tetrakis(carboxylic acid) homologues. The small size of the compounds allows more favorable delivery to tumor cells as compared to larger molecular weight imaging agents. The various dyes are useful over the range of 350-1300 nm, the exact range being dependent upon the particular dye. Use of dimethylsulfoxide helps to maintain the fluorescence of the compounds. The molecules of the invention are useful for diagnostic imaging and therapy, in endoscopic applications for the detection of tumors and other abnormalities and for localized therapy, for photoacoustic tumor imaging, detection and therapy, and for sonofluorescence tumor imaging, detection and therapy.

Abstract: A contrast media injection system includes detects the absolute position of the syringe ram using a non-contact sensor. A series of magnets and Hall-Effect sensors may be used or an opto-reflective system. Illuminated knobs that are connected to the drive mechanism for the syringe ram rotate with the drive and provide visual feedback on operation through the illumination. Analog Hall-Effect sensors are used to determine the presence or absence of magnets that identify the type of faceplate being used. The faceplates include control electronics, connected to the powerhead through connectors, which may be interchangeably used by the two faceplates. The faceplate electronics include detectors for automatically detecting the capacity of pre-filled syringes.

Abstract: The present invention relates to the economical and separation of benzphetamine hydrochloride and methamphetamine by liquid extraction. An extraction process employing a suitable organic solvent and water at a pH in the range of from about 6 to about 8 provides excellent removal of the methamphetamine by dissolution in the water phase while the benzphetamine dissolves in the organic phase. Simple separation of the two phases results in separation of the two amines.
Abstract: Cyanine dye bioconjugates useful for diagnostic imaging and therapy are disclosed. The conjugates include several cyanine dyes with a variety of bis- and tetrakis (carboxylic acid) homologs. The compounds may be conjugated to bioactive peptides, carbohydrates, hormones, drugs, or other bioactive agents. The small size of the compounds allows more favorable delivery to tumor cells as compared to larger molecular weight imaging agents. The various dyes are useful over the range of 350 to 1300 nm, the exact range being dependent upon the particular dye. The use of dimethylsulfoxide helps to maintain the fluorescence of the compounds. The inventive compounds are useful for diagnostic imaging and therapy, in endoscopic applications for the detection of tumors and other abnormalities, for localized therapy, for photoacoustic tumor imaging, detection and therapy, and for sonofluoresence tumor imaging, detection and therapy.
