Patent number: 4456649Abstract: This invention relates to holt melt adhesives for use in coating and/or laminating paper. Conventional hot melt adhesives used to manufacture a coated or laminated product with good vapor barrier characteristics are based on ingredients compounded with significantly lower proportions of inert low cost filler materials. The present invention provides a hot melt adhesive/coating blend which not only provides a moisture vapor barrier and/or bonding but also significantly reduces the quantity of more expensive ingredients through the use of a large quantity of a lower cost ultra fine ground inert inorganic filler material and a low cost modifying hydrocarbon resin. The blend or composition consists essentially of, in parts by weight, up to about 25 parts of a hi melt point paraffin wax, 10-30 parts of a modifying hydrocarbon resin, 1-20 parts of an elastomeric copolymer, and 20-85 parts of an inert inorganic filler material.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 1982Date of Patent: June 26, 1984Assignee: Manville Service CorporationInventor: Wayne C. Patent number: 4451762Abstract: A control circuit and system is disclosed for providing emergency lighting from a single source of electrical power which itself is capable of providing input power alternately in the form of a sinusoidal power signal and a square wave power signal during interruption of the sinusoidal power signal. In the preferred form of the invention, a high intensity discharge lamp (HID) and an emergency lamp are provided in the same lighting fixture. A control circuit in the form of a power source detector first detects whether a sinusoidal power signal or a square wave signal is being supplied from a power station onto a pair of input lines. The power station automatically supplies the detector with input power in the form of a square wave rather than the normal sinusoidal power signal when an emergency condition exists such as normal power failure.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 1982Date of Patent: May 29, 1984Assignee: Manville Service CorporationInventors: Don A. Patent number: 4449633Abstract: A new and improved ovenable paperboard carton for use in a microwave and conventional oven is disclosed. The improved carton comprises a bottom tray having a plurality of side panels with gusset panels attached thereto and combines the bottom tray with a new and improved upper lid which has a central top panel and a plurality of side panels hingedly attached thereto. The upper lid contains a pair of strategically placed reverse cuts which form a tear-off portion for the carton. The tear-off portion is designed to provide corner reinforcement to the package. When the tear-off portion is removed from the upper lid, a pair of structurally supporting channels are formed along opposite edges of the carton to add stability, with the corner reinforcement, to the package upon removal of the lid. Patent number: 4439175Abstract: A machine for forming blocks of fibrous insulation from a continuous fibrous blanket. These folded blocks may be used in furnace linings or the like. A pair of oscillating folder vanes form folds which extend in alternating directions. The vanes are oscillated by a continuously driven motor through a crank linkage. A reciprocating support vane engages the newly formed folds and supports them while the folder vanes are being disengaged from the blanket. A feeder drum and bearing member co-act to form a material supply loop from which the folds are made. The same motor drives all moving parts making the controls simple and inexpensive.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 1981Date of Patent: March 27, 1984Assignee: Manville Service CorporationInventors: Anthony E. Patent number: 4425749Abstract: An L-shaped insulating module for use on outside and inside corners as well as on door jambs in a high temperature furnace. A module of refractory fibers is constructed of one blanket folded in accordance with a particular sequence to produce a first region with a first number of layers and a second region with a second lesser number of layers which is generally half as many as the first number. One-half of each of the second layers is removed to produce an L-shaped component. A second component member is interleaved with the layers of the second region to produce an L-shaped module of uniform thickness. Mounting hardware is attached to two faces of the module for attachment to their respective wall faces. The attachment is such that it retains the two components in assembled condition.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1981Date of Patent: January 17, 1984Assignee: Manville Service CorporationInventor: William H. Patent number: 4415517Abstract: Method and apparatus for shaping of mats composed of loose fibers with a thermosetting resin interspersed throughout. The apparatus compresses the mat and exposes its laterally extending surfaces to elevated temperatures to obtain partial curing thereof. Slits are made in the surface regions adjacent areas where extra shaping will occur in forming the final product. These slits enable more precise shapes to be impressed upon the mat and eliminate the tendency of the partially cured areas to spring back to a position of lesser compression.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 1981Date of Patent: November 15, 1983Assignee: Manville Service CorporationInventor: Donny L.
