  • Patent number: 4351408
Abstract: An articulated vehicle including a front member having at least two axles, the forwardmost one of which is steerable, and a rear member, connected to the front member by a pivotal joint, having at least one axle and an engine for driving that axle. A first transducer produces a signal representative of the angle between the steerable axle and another axle of the front member, and a second transducer produces a signal representative of the buckling angle between the vehicle members. A comparator receives the transducer signals and produces a signal in the event that the actual buckling angle is less or greater than a theoretical buckling angle, the latter being determined by the signal from the first transducer. A device, such as a piston and cylinder device, responds to the comparator signal by producing a torque about the pivotal joint to increase or decrease, as the case may be, the actual buckling angle so that it approaches the theoretical buckling angle.

  • Patent number: 4313615
Abstract: A buckling angle control arrangement for the articulated front and trailing members of a vehicle, including an element, such as a disk or ring, pivotable about the first axis of the articulation between the vehicle members. A pushrod pivotally interconnects the pivotable element with the steering mechanism of the vehicle in such a way that the steering mechanism and pivotable element rotate in opposite directions. Two hydraulic cylinder and piston assemblies are arranged on opposite sides of the articulation axis, each assembly being between the two vehicle members. A three-position valve, for controlling hydraulic fluid flow between the two cylinder and piston assemblies, is itself controlled by an actuating member which cooperates with two cams carried by the pivotable element.

  • Patent number: 4048974
Abstract: An external auto-ignited four stroke cycle gas engine with a combustion chamber which is arranged in the piston rotation symmetrically with regard to the cylinder axis and which in the upper dead center point of the piston absorbs nearly the total gas-air mixture. The engine, furthermore, includes means for imparting turbulence upon the gas-air mixture about the longitudinal cylinder axis, and also has a trough which is arranged in the cylinder head, and into which a spark plug extends. The combustion chamber in the form of a truncated cone open and widening toward the cylinder head has a substantially plane bottom while the greatest diameter of this truncated cone-shaped combustion chamber equals from 55 to 70% of the piston diameter and the depth of this combustion chamber is in a range from 15 to 20% of the piston diameter. The mantle surface of the combustion chamber is at an angle of from 10.degree. to 30.degree. inclined relative to the longitudinal axis of the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4038928
Abstract: Lateral guidance apparatus for laterally guiding a wheel set of a rail vehicle with respect to a support rail. The apparatus includes electromagnets carried with the wheel sets and positioned and controlled so as to effect return of the wheel set to a central position along the rail whenever the wheel set deviates from such central position. In a first preferred embodiment, the electromagnets are positioned at respective opposite sides of the rail supporting the vehicle wheels, with means for controlling the current in the electromagnets so that the magnetic force set up between the poles of the magnets and the support rail effects an automatic return of the wheel set to a desired central operating position.

  • Patent number: 4013058
Abstract: To connect two machine elements which are dynamically loaded by means of tension bolts, the bolts are carried through bores in the machine elements which are somewhat wider than the diameter of the bolts to form a cylindrical chamber, leaving a cylindrical gap surrounding the bolt; the chamber is entirely filled with a damping substance, such as a foamed material, or lubricating oil, particularly pressurized lubricating oil or the like. Preferably, the gap is about 2 to 8 percent of the diameter of the tension bolt, has a length at least three times the diameter of the tension bolt, and is located approximately centered between the points of force application on the tension bolt, to dampen transfer of vibrations, but permit slow bending, below the yield point of the bolt, within the chamber.

  • Patent number: 4000691
Abstract: The circumferential speed of driven ink application rollers is controlled to be less than the circumferential speed of the plate cylinders to which the ink application rollers supply ink and with which it is in friction-transmission connection. Preferably, the speed difference is adjustable, and so arranged that the circumferential speed of the driven ink application roller is less than the plate cylinder, any other driven rollers in the ink train being intermediate between the slowest ink application roller and the plate cylinder and, further, that, in case of sequentially arranged plate cylinders, the relative speeds of the ink application rollers associated with sequential plate cylinders become less, in the direction of web transport, to place frictional loading on the plate cylinders and thus provide for positive engagement of all drive gearing to overcome play therein and improve registration of sequentially printed data.

  • Patent number: 4000730
Abstract: To prevent differential deformation and damage, upon operation of large internal combustion engines, such as large Diesel engines, the cage structure is formed with a central valve seat and a lateral passage for inlet and exhaust gases to the cylinder of the internal combustion engine, and the wall opposite the lateral passage is formed with a diametrically interrupting slit extending at least in part transversely to the longitudinal axis of the cage (and hence of the valve), leaving a depending tongue to delimit the valve cage, the interrupted wall structure preventing unbalanced thermal and vibration stresses from interfering with the structural stability of the valve cage.
