  • Patent number: 3983811
Abstract: To prevent center sag, or bowing of printing cylinders, and thus uneven printing throughout the axial length thereof, extension struts are connected to stub shafts at the ends of the cylinders, the struts being connected together to form a closed, rectangular or square frame in which the individual lengths of the struts are adjustable to thereby provide individually adjusted forces to the ends of the stub shafts and counteract sag or bow of the cylinders.

  • Patent number: 3982787
Abstract: The present passenger car has front seats and rear seats and includes means for adjusting both seats back and forth along the longitudinal axis of the passenger vehicle. For this purpose the rear seat is guided on tracks, preferably tracks which have a portion rising in the forward direction. The rear back rest is hinged at its lower edge or end to the rear edge of the rear seat proper. The top edge of the rear back seat is guided in substantially vertical guide rails, whereby it is possible to tilt the back rest relative to the horizontal in the manner of a reclining chair simultaneously with the longitudinal adjustment of the rear seat or seats.

  • Patent number: 3981281
Abstract: A cam for controlling the valve of an internal combustion engine which controls the valve by means of a valve tappet having a flat bottom, against the thrust of a closing spring. The acceleration and the deceleration regions are divided into a total of five sections I-V of which the acceleration sections I and V are defined by a Fourier series of the third order represented by the equation:z.sub.J.sub." = a.sub.j.spsb.1.sup.. sin .alpha. + a.sub.j.spsb.2.sup.. sin 2.alpha.+a.sub.j.spsb.3.sup.. sin 3.alpha.in which j represents one of the respective sections I and V, while a.sub.j.spsb.1 to a.sub.j.spsb.3 are selected in conformity with the required conditions, and while .alpha. represents a function of the cam angle x. The section II which follows the opening flank and the section IV preceding the closing flank result in a precisely constant ascent of the lubrication number curve while in connection with the cam stroke to section II the following equation applies:z.sub.II = a.sup.. sin[.sqroot. 0.

  • Patent number: 3978823
Abstract: An internal combustion engine, especially Otto engine, which utilizes fuel gas supplied in a low-temperature liquefied state for the combustion process. Heat exchange means are provided for effecting a heat exchange between the intake combustion air and the fuel gas such that the combustion air is cooled down prior to combustion by its use as a heat-emitting heat-exchanging medium for preheating the low-temperature liquefied fuel gas. In one preferred embodiment, the heat exchange means is a mixing carburetor arranged upstream of the engine combustion chamber and in another preferred embodiment of the invention, the heat exchanger means is a non-contact heat exchanger for effecting heat transfer without mixing of the combustion air and fuel gas.

  • Patent number: 3967560
Abstract: Bending beam arrangement for use in supporting elevated trains and the like, and method of making same. The profile member beam is formed as a composite structure having steel profilemember and a concrete profile member connected thereto. The concrete profile member is disposed and configured so as to maximally absorb the compression forces experienced by the bending beam while minimizing the total cross sectional area of the concrete so that the overall weight of the bending beam is maintained at a minimal level. By absorbing the compressive forces on the composite beam and thereby preventing buckling of the steel beam, a thin walled steel beam construction can be utilized hence substantially only significant tensile forces need be accommodated thereby. Various preferred geometrical embodiments are included with means being provided in each embodiment to accommodate supporting and guiding of an elevational or suspended train vehicle for movement therealong.

  • Patent number: 3964948
Abstract: A dose of a liquid or semi-liquid locking agent is enclosed within a hollow wall to form a capsule. The capsule is introduced into a threaded blind hole, after which a screw is threaded into the hole. Movement of the screw into the hole crushes the capsule to release the locking agent. The collapsed capsule wall fills the space between the inner end of the screw and the bottom of the blind hole, and the locking agent is forced into the helical space between the screw threads and the hole threads.

  • Patent number: 3961184
Abstract: Apparatus for photoelectric measurements of a parameter of a movable part such as the rotary speed thereof wherein the part is provided with constrast marks thereon and the light source and the light receiver of the apparatus are not separated by the movable part. The light source and the light receiver are commonly housed in a scanner unit arranged at one end face of a light conductive member, the other end face being positioned proximate to the contrast marks on the movable part such that the light conductive member forms a light beam path for directing light from the light source onto the movable part and for directing reflected light from the movable part to the light receiver.

  • Patent number: 3959887
Abstract: Device for precision measurement of the internal diameter of thin-walled pipes including a commercial three-point inside micrometer with one part-cylindrical shaped jaw segment connected to each of the three points of the micrometer and dimensioned so as to exhibit outer surfaces arranged in an ideal circle having a diameter equal to the nominal inside diameter of the pipe being measured. These three jaw segments are formed by radially slitting a cylindrical body having an outer circumference corresponding to an ideal circle having the diameter of the nominal internal diameter of a pipe to be measured. The slitting extends radially so as to form symmetrical 120.degree.

  • Patent number: 3958541
Abstract: A device for lubricating the cams of camshafts of reciprocable piston engines according to which oil under pressure is supplied to circumferential and axial grooves provided in the bearing or bearings for the camshaft. From the axial groove or grooves oil is intermittently sprayed upon a selected surface of the cam or cams of the camshaft. To this end, the axial groove is radially spaced from the central axis of the camshaft, and intermittently at a certain circumferential angle relative to a selected surface portion of the cam, for instance the active elevated cam portion, oil under pressure is sprayed from the axial bore onto the selected cam surface to be lubricated.

  • Patent number: 3951242
Abstract: A non-exhaustable permanent brake for a vehicle motor, which includes a fluid operable braking unit arranged in the housing of the vehicle motor and comprising a pump wheel which is drivingly connected to the crankshaft of the motor and is interposed in a liquid lubricant circulating circuit. This pump wheel has associated therewith a follower which normally is freely and under no load rotated by the liquid lubricant circulated by the pump wheel but can be arrested by a friction brake to brake the pump wheel and thereby the motor.

  • Patent number: 3951394
Abstract: The present method secures two shell members to respective holding means so that welding edges of the shells are exposed for a milling operation, preferably a simultaneous milling operation. The holding means are then placed back to back and secured against displacement relative to each other so that the milled welding edges contact each other precisely whereupon the edges are welded to each other by means of electron beams. The present apparatus is constructed for accomplishing said back to back locating of two holding means while simultaneously preventing the displacement of the shell members as well as the displacement of the holding means relative to each other. For this purpose, the present apparatus is provided with a base preferably formed as a carriage and with holding means for holding the shell member along its length to the base as well as with claws for clamping the ends of the shell member to the base.
