  • Patent number: 6064877
Abstract: If a user attempts to provide a protection attribute to a new message while the number of old messages which have a protection attribute and are retained is equal to the maximum number of protected messages, a portable radio terminal, such as a pager system, displays on an LCD 13 the oldest received message having a protection attribute. Only the messages having a protection attribute are displayed on the LCD 13 in chronological order of receipt by rotating a rotary switch 4. A message whose protection attribute is canceled is determined by pressing the rotary switch 4 while a message which the user desires to cancel is displayed. Simultaneously, the foregoing operation enables a new message which the user desires to protect to be provided with a protection attribute.

  • Patent number: 5970018
Abstract: In plural internal logic circuits, plural transistors having the same function are merged into a single merged transistor. This merged transistor is interposed between a ground and a virtual ground line connected with a ground node of an inverter included in each of the internal logic circuits, and has a threshold voltage higher than a threshold voltage of a transistor included in each inverter. The merged transistor is controlled in accordance with a block selecting signal. Since the merged transistor is merged among the internal logic circuits, its gate width can be set larger, resulting in attaining a high speed operation of each inverter. During a standby, a leakage current can be suppressed since the merged transistor is in an off-state. During an operation, a leakage current can be suppressed in an unselected circuit block since the merged transistor is in an off-state.

  • Patent number: 5623382
Abstract: A disk driving apparatus solves such problems that the position of a rotor is unstable and likely to float, and the rotor is displaced when an excessive acceleration is applied thereto, so that a hydrodynamic bearing mechanism can be used. This apparatus uses a single surface opposing type mechanism in a thrust bearing of a motor. It has a device using a magnetic attraction force to stabilize the position of the rotor and various devices for limiting the amount of movement of the rotor, in which devices members which physically contact the rotor and lock in are provided. As a result, a thrust bearing mechanism can be formed by use of a single surface opposing type thrust bearing which is simple in construction. Advantages such as low height, simplicity in construction, low price, or low consumption of power can be obtained. In particular, the feature of low height is extremely advantageous when a hydrodynamic bearing is used in a thin type apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5537345
Abstract: An input register holds, as an input operand to be square rooted, a floating-point number with an exponential radix is 2. An approximation of the reciprocal of a square root is retrieved from a table information store unit by an address composed of a least significant bit of an exponent and upper bits of a mantissa provided from the input register. The mantissa, with a leading bit appended, is normalized by a normalization circuit in units of two bits. An output of a remainder hold circuit in which a 0th remainder serves as a normalized operand is multiplied by a retrieved approximation to find a partial square root. Partial square roots found in iterative calculations are merged by a digit place alignment circuit and an adder. By making use of an inverter, a multiplicand generator, and an (R+S.times.

  • Patent number: 5369624
Abstract: In accordance with the principles of the present invention, advantage is taken by the inventors of the fact that the speed of operation of the digital hardware in a digital beamformer having a plurality of parallel receiving channels can be reduced by providing multiple phases for the data signals supplied by each receiving channel and then processing the multi-phase data in N parallel summing paths. An interpolation-decimation filter receives the multi-phase data from the N parallel summing paths and provides at its output a signal having a reduced data rate (1/N). In accordance with this technique, the speed of operation of the individual digital circuits for forming the required beamforming delays are not increased as compared to conventional post-beamforming interpolation schemes, so that hereby the effective data rate is increased by a factor N and the delay quantization error is reduced by a factor N.
