Abstract: A system for providing voicemail services includes a network device that receives voicemail messages intended for subscribers. The subscribers may be associated with a number of different local telephone service providers. The network device also stores the voicemail messages for later retrieval by the subscribers.

Abstract: A system authenticates an electronic transaction between a first user-operated device and a computer. The computer is configured to conduct electronic transactions. The system includes a voice browser and a session correlator. The voice browser is configured to receive and process user-spoken information from a second user-operated device, where the voice browser is programmed to compare a user-spoken transaction identifier to a computer generated transaction identifier, and to compare a user-spoken verification identifier to a voice print of the user. The session correlator is coupled to the voice browser and is configured to transmit an authentication message to the computer if the user-spoken transaction identifier matches the computer transaction identifier, and if the user-spoken verification identifier matches the voice print.

Abstract: A system includes a policy engine in an Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS). The policy engine may be configured to store a group of policies associated with the IMS, and forward the group of policies to a group of policy components in the IMS.

Abstract: A system and a method for reporting a location are provided. A location finding device determines whether the location finding device is located within a first distance of a first location or area. When the location finding device determines that the location finding device is not located within the first distance of the first location, the location finding device determines whether a wireless access point is available. When a wireless access point is determined to be available, the location finding device reports information indicative of a location of the location finding device to a server via the wireless access point.

Abstract: A method for signaling an Integrated Messaging System (IMS) on an Internet Protocol (IP) based network to deposit a message, including the steps of sending a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) SIP INVITE request to the IMS indicating a message deposit action; receiving a corresponding SIP message from the IMS agreeing to participate in the message deposit action; and sending an SIP acknowledge message to the IMS confirming receipt of the corresponding SIP message; and depositing the message in a destination mailbox. A method of signaling an IMS on an IP based network to retrieve a deposited message, the method including the steps of sending a SIP INVITE request to the IMS indicating a message retrieval action; receiving a corresponding SIP message from the IMS agreeing to participate in the message retrieval action; sending an SIP acknowledge message to the IMS confirming receipt of the corresponding SIP message; and retrieving the deposited message from a mailbox corresponding to known account information.

Abstract: An approach is provided for supporting telephony services over a data network. The approach aggregate message waiting indication information from one or more voice mail systems for notifying a user of the presence of a voice mail message resident on any one of the voice mail systems. According to a user profile, a notification message is transmitted over the data network to one or more instant communication clients based upon the aggregated message waiting indication information, wherein the notification message specifies the presence of the voice mail message.

Abstract: A system and method for routing and segregating cables is provided. An embodiment includes a support member having a plurality of cable trays coupled thereto. The cable trays may be arranged in a tiered-manner such that cable receiving portions of the cable trays extend farther than an adjacent cable tray in a longitudinal direction. Cables may then be routed to individual cable trays, which route the cables to a second location. In this manner, the cables in each cable tray are segregated from cables in other cable trays, thereby reducing the twisting of the cables.

Abstract: A device tracking location adherence and route adherence technology, is disclosed that at least provides a tracked device receiving, a set of coordinates associated with a boundary area, and obtaining a position of the tracked device. Based upon the received coordinates and the detected position of the tracked device, a determination is made as to whether the tracked device is located inside the boundary area or outside the boundary area. An alert signal is then generated and transmitted if the result of the determining is different from an immediately previous obtained result. The system allows, for example, drastic reduction in the amount of data traffic required within a system since the tracked device performs much of the necessary processing. This is especially advantageous where a fleet of tracked devices are employed within a network.

Abstract: A method and system for improving the passage of silent or unused status of Ds0 channel to a data switch with a Ds0 switching capacity. The method allows the Ds0 channel source to be the only equipment that must engage a digital signal processor to remove silent and unused Ds0 channels from a Ds0 channel carrying data packet. The method provides for the Ds0 channel source, the intermediate nodes (data switches with Ds0 switching matrixes included) and Ds0 channel destination to recognize a simple and efficient means of passing suppression status of a Ds0 channel through the entire network.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for detecting dropped packets in a network that includes a packet switched network. The method includes establishing a telephonic connection between a first network location and a second network location. A set of N waveforms are transmitted from the first network location. Each transmitted waveform includes a waveform characteristic operative to assign a predetermined value relative to other waveforms in the at least one set, such that a predetermined sequence of values are assigned to packets carrying the N transmitted waveforms. A telephonic signal is received at the second network location via the communications channel. The telephonic signal is processed to obtain a received sequence of values. The received sequence of values is compared to the predetermined sequence of transmitted values to detect dropped packets without having access to packet switched network control data.

Abstract: A method for appending advertisements to paging messages may be utilized to reduce or substantially eliminate the fees for paging services paid by paging service customers while allowing companies to easily get their advertisements directly to a specific market or market segment. Alpha-numeric pagers may be programmed/reprogrammed to accept advertisements either prior to or after receiving a page. The alpha-numeric pagers may be programmed with an identification code which indicates to the paging service provider that advertisements are acceptable. Accordingly, if an alpha-numeric pager is programmed to accept advertisements, the paging service provider transmits the advertisements with the page.

Abstract: An approach for processing voice calls over a packet switched network as to efficiently utilize the functionalities of a Voice Response Unit (VRU). According to one embodiment, a call originator, acting as a User Agent Client in accordance with the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), issues messages to establish a first call-leg with the VRU. The VRU performs digit collection to obtain information to authenticate the call originator and to authorize the voice call. Based upon the issued messages from the call originator, the VRU establishes a second call-leg with the call terminator. The VRU is released from the voice call after binding the call-legs to connect the call originator to the call terminator.

Abstract: A method for implementing a truly hitless tunable filter for use in adding and/or dropping channels in a wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) network is disclosed. An exemplary method for filtering an optical signal may include providing a composite optical signal having several wavelengths including a first wavelength, a second wavelength and other wavelengths. The method may include passing the first wavelength through a filter and reflecting the second wavelength and the other wavelengths with the filter. The method may include making the first wavelength available to a drop port, and making the second wavelength and the other wavelengths available to an output port.

Abstract: An approach for providing managed security services is disclosed. A database, within a server or a pre-existing anomalous event detection system, stores a rule set specifying a security policy for a network associated with a customer. An anomalous detection event module is deployed within a premise of the customer and retrieves rule sets from the database. The anomalous detection event module monitors a sub-network of the network based on the rule sets. The anomalous event detection module is further configured to self-organize by examining components of the network and to monitor for anomalous events according to the examined components, and to self-provision by selectively creating another instance of the anomalous detection event module to monitor another sub-network of the network.

Abstract: A method for providing communication services for the hearing-impaired may include receiving a telephone call having a terminating number associated with a hearing-impaired party. The method may also include forwarding the telephone call to a communication assistant and establishing a communication link from the communication assistant to the hearing-impaired party based on the terminating number.

Abstract: A data model of a modeled environment is maintained within a database. The data model includes data defining a plurality of hierarchically arranged subsets of space within the modeled environment and data defining a plurality of items populating the modeled environment. A data processing system displays within a display device at least first and second windows. The first window displays a map of the modeled environment, where the map includes at least one user-selectable graphical element representing one of the plurality of hierarchically arranged subsets of space or one of the plurality of items. In response to a first user input, a graphical element is copied from the first window and displayed within the second window. In response to a second user input selecting the graphical element within the second window, data from the database associated with the subset of space or item represented by the graphical element is presented.

Abstract: A communications manager in a telecommunications transaction server communicates service request messages and service response messages between one or more remotely executing service request processes and one or more service applications executing on the transaction server. A main thread in the communications manager monitors connections requests and initializes other threads. A unique logical communications connection is established between one of the service request processes and the communications manager. The communications manager creates both a read thread and a write thread for each logical communication connection that is validated and active. The read thread communicates service request messages from a service request process to an appropriate service application. The write thread communications service response messages from the service application to the service request process that issues the service request message.

Abstract: A method and system for providing quality of service in an IP telephony session between a calling party and a called party establishes a high quality of service ATM virtual circuit for the session between first and second devices, each of the devices having ATM capability and IP capability. The first and second devices provide bidirectional translation between IP media and ATM media. The system transports IP media for the session between the calling party and the first device, and between said called party and a second device. The virtual circuit transports ATM media for the session between the first and second devices. An intelligent control layer provides IP and ATM signaling to set up the session.

Abstract: An approach for providing self-service call plan application development is disclosed. A graphical system includes a computing system that is configured to cause a graphical user interface (GUI) to be present for automated creation of an application for controlling call flow logic. The application supports a predefined feature set. Additionally, the system includes a database that is coupled to the server and configured to store the application. The server is further configured to determine whether the application is valid and to initiate deployment of the application. The deployment may be performed on a real-time basis.
