  • Patent number: 7198471
Abstract: The invention relates to a wind turbine blade comprising a number of pre-fabricated strips arranged in a sequence along the outer periphery. The strips consist of a fibrous composite material, preferably carbon fibres, and consist of a wooden material, preferably plywood or wooden fibres held in a cured resin. The advantage is that it is possible to manufacture blades for wind turbines which are very stiff and generally have a high strength, but which nevertheless are easy to manufacture and also is much cheaper to manufacture compared to conventional manufacturing techniques. The invention also relates to methods for manufacturing prefabricated strips and for manufacturing wind turbine blades.

  • Patent number: 7020000
Abstract: A CAM match detection circuit that maintains established levels of accuracy while greatly reducing the amount of power dissipated is disclosed. Rather than allowing the Matchline 185 voltage to swing between a precharge voltage level of VDD and ground, the Matchline voltage is restricted to swinging between a reduced precharge voltage level (i.e., a voltage level lower than VDD) and ground. Further, a source of a p-type transistor that makes up one transistor in each pair of series connected transistors is coupled to the Matchline thereby further reducing the Matchline swing voltage and the overall power dissipation of the match detection circuit.

  • Patent number: 6983844
Abstract: The invention relates to a transportation method and a package system for transporting a set of large longitudinal items such as blades for a wind turbine (1) or a tower for a wind turbine. Taking wind turbine blades (1) as an example, the advantages of the invention reside in packaging a tip (3) of one blade and a base (2) of a second blade in the one and same package (5) such that two blades (1) may be transported in packages (5, 16) having an overall lateral extension, approximately the same as the base of only one blade (1) for the wind turbine. Thereby a very compact but also a very easy means of transportation of large longitudinal items such as wind turbine blades (1) is provided.

  • Patent number: 6844656
Abstract: This invention relates to an electric multiple motor/generator with axial magnetic flux. Thus a generator/motor or electrical machine in which a magnetic flux path through one or more pole legs or pole cores surrounded by current windings or coils is provided. This allows a high density of the magnetic flux to be passed through the pole legs or cores, which results in a low consumption of material for the pole legs or pole cores compared with prior art machines, where for example a large stator diameter may be needed in order to conduct a high magnetic flux. Additionally the generator/motor or electrical machine is very efficient both at a low and a high number of revolutions. According to another aspect of the invention a multiple phase output without enlarging the diameter of the generator is provided.

  • Patent number: 6695588
Abstract: Damping of oscillations of the first bending mode of a wind turbine is performed means of one or more containers partly filled with a liquid for damping oscillations of the first natural bending frequency of the wind turbine. The damping means comprises a plurality of box shaped containers having a square cross section and being partly filled with liquid so as to provide a unidirectional damping with a logarithmic decrement of oscillations of the first natural bending frequency of the wind turbine of at least 4-8%. For off-shore wind turbines, the combined excitation of the wind and sea waves requires more damping, the damping is preferably equivalent to a logarithmic decrement of 10-15%. Furthermore, the invention relates to damping of oscillation of the second bending mode of a wind turbine and to the combined damping of oscillations of the first as well as the second bending mode of the wind turbine.

  • Patent number: 6672837
Abstract: The present invention relates to a wind turbine with oscillation damping means provided at the nacelle and being designed for damping edgewise oscillations of the rotor blades in the rotational plane of the rotor. In particular, the invention relates to a wind turbine in which the oscillation damping means are provided at the end of the nacelle being opposite to the end from which the rotor extends and are designed for damping oscillations of the first eigenfrequency of the rotor blades in the rotational plane, especially oscillations being perpendicular to the rotational axis of the rotor. The damping means are advantageously designed to dampen oscillations of a frequency being substantially equal to the first eigenfrequency in the rotational plane of the at least one blade minus the frequency of rotation of the rotor. The oscillation damping means of the present invention are preferably capable of damping oscillations being substantially horizontal and substantially perpendicular to the rotation axis.

  • Patent number: 6626642
Abstract: A wind turbine blade has an oscillation damper provided in the blade for damping oscillations of the blade, in particular edgewise oscillations of the blade in the rotational plane of a rotor on which the blade is mounted. The damper comprises a U-shaped cavity in which a saturated solution of sodium chloride in water may oscillate in counter-phase with the oscillations of the blade. The upper end of the arms of the U-shaped cavity are connected with a passage way so that an O-shaped cavity is provided. The cavity may be tuned to dampen oscillations of the first natural edgewise frequency or the second natural edgewise frequency of the blade or the damper may comprise both types of dampers. Furthermore, blades comprising dampers having a cylindrical element may roll in a box in the blade and dampers can have a resiliently suspended pendulum.
