Abstract: A method, a system and an evolved nodeB (eNodeB) that enable user equipment (UE) to switch between carrier groups in a multi-carrier network. A carrier selection and switching (CSS) utility identifies a first and a second set of pre-configured groups of carrier frequencies that are subsequently assigned to a particular UE. The CSS utility notifies the UE of the assigned, pre-configured groups of carrier frequencies and provides the UE with system parameters associated with the first and second pre-configured groups of carrier frequencies. The CSS utility signals the UE to initiate communication via the first preconfigured group of carriers. Based on the occurrence of pre-established conditions, the CSS utility utilizes a switch signal to indicate via physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) to the UE (a) when to begin utilizing the second group of preconfigured carrier frequencies and (b) when to make subsequent switches between carrier groups.

Abstract: A system includes: a packet processing function and a packet modification function. The packet processing function receives a packet generated by a sending application function and destined for a receiving application function. The packet includes first identifier information, and the packet processing function adds second identifier information thereto. The packet modification function: receives the packet; alters it in a way that prevents use of the first identifier information by a 3GPP conforming service data flow detection process to map the packet to a first service data flow for the sending application function; and provides the packet to a packet routing function with the second identifier information positioned in the packet to enable the packet routing function to use the second identifier information in the 3GPP conforming service data flow detection process to map the packet to the first service data flow and to a bearer for transporting the packet.

Abstract: A method and receiver apparatus for a receiving radio unit are disclosed for use in a wireless communication system for processing transmissions from different radio units at the receiving radio unit. A first transmitting radio unit transmits first audio information (e.g., a first audio encoded frame) in a first time slot, and a second transmitting radio unit then transmits second audio information (e.g., a second audio encoded frame) in a second time slot. The receiving radio unit receives radio frequency (RF) signals comprising a first bit stream corresponding to the first audio information, and a second bit stream corresponding to the second audio information. Based on the first bit stream and the second bit stream the receiving radio unit generates a single analog audio signal that comprises combined audio information corresponding to the first audio information and the second audio information.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for scanning amongst two-way radios is disclosed. The method includes applying a scan probability index (SPI) to each member of a scan list, the SPI indicating a likelihood of channel activity. The SPI is dynamically updated by a variety of processes. Members are loaded from the scan list, and the SPI of the loaded member is compared to a threshold. Members are skipped or checked for activity based on the SPI passing or failing the threshold. Members having a sufficient SPI will proceed to have detected channel activity decoded. The method and apparatus may utilize both normal scan members and vote scan member frequencies.

Abstract: A method is provided to determine optimal data rate and packet length in mobile networks. The method directly determines the optimal packet length (L) and data rate (D), which allows fast convergence in the mobile channel. The method automatically identifies and quantifies channel conditions, as well as adjusts parameters according to changes of channel conditions. A variable (Channel condition Index (CCI)) is abstracted from simulations and then used to describe and quantify the impact of three components of channel conditions: signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), multipath environment and velocity. Based on packet completion rate (PCR) status, the channel condition is identified in terms of CCI value. Once CCI is identified, the model of effective throughput G is directly optimized to locate the best packet length (L) and data rate (D).

Abstract: A communication device is presented that has a multiband antenna structure. A helical load extends from a monopole and reduces the resonance frequency of the monopole to the UHF band while leaving a GPS resonance of the monopole substantially unchanged. Helical proximate and distal portions are connected to the load such that the overall antenna structure has a VHF resonance. The helical portions have different characteristics and are configured to not substantially affect the UHF or GPS resonances. The helical portions have different pitch angles to permit minimization of the length of the combined helical portions while providing a desired operating VHF bandwidth.

An auto-tuning circuit and technique provide a measurement of static phase error by integrating the static phase error in the DLL/PLL circuit. Abstract: Methods of communicating location information from a subscriber to a repeater are described. The subscriber switches from a working channel to a data revert channel, transmits a request for a periodic or one-time window to transmit an update, and determines from grant information in the response announcement the allocated window and frame before switching back to the working channel. Before the allocated time, the subscriber switches to the data revert channel, confirms whether it remains scheduled to transmit the update from a repeater announcement, and if so transmits the location update in either the current or reserved window. The announcements from the repeater contain the identity of the next window and frame and the subscriber reserved to use the window in addition to grant information. The subscribers may or may not be time-aligned and the data and data revert channels may or may not be synchronized.
