  • Patent number: 8018461
Abstract: A device and a method for generating a text object, in particular, for a geographic map illustration. The text object comprises a multitude of letters and serves for identifying, for example, a geographic characteristic on the map illustration. The text object comprises several letters, the font sizes or spacings of which are reduced relative to the spacings between the other letters of the text object. The text object can be displayed on monitors with small dimensions, particularly in the field of navigation systems. It is also possible to display larger text objects such as, for example, long street names on small navigation monitors such that they can be easily recognized without occupying valuable monitor space required for other purposes.

  • Patent number: 7979203
Abstract: A method for operating a navigation device including a processor, a signal receiver for receiving position signals, a road network database that also contains position data on tunnels (tunnel attributes), a position finding unit that determines the current position of the vehicle, a display unit and a display control for controlling the adjustments of the display unit, particularly for regulating the brightness and/or a color scheme of the display unit. The display control is able to change the adjustment of the display unit while driving through a tunnel (tunnel mode). The method can include determining the vehicle position with consideration of the received position signals and automatically activating the tunnel mode of the display unit by means of the display control immediately or with a certain time delay if the determined vehicle position features a tunnel attribute and the received position signals fall short of a predetermined signal quality.

  • Publication number: 20100312466
Abstract: The present invention relates to a device and a method for navigating a vehicle along a route from a starting position or an instantaneous position to a destination. To this end, a route calculation device of a navigation device calculates a route course which is composed of a sequence of several coherent roads stored on a digital map of a memory device as a first route, and additionally calculates at least one alternative route by allocating a penalty attribute, especially increased average traveling time, road distance or the like, to at least one road of the first route. The method comprises at least the following steps of: S1: entering at least one destination; S2: calculating a first route; S3: allocating a penalty attribute to at least one road of the first route; S4: calculating at least one additional route; S7: representing the routes and selecting a route; S8: navigational guidance along the selected route.

  • Publication number: 20100256899
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method, wherein maneuvering instructions are output (09) for the user of a navigation system (10). For the schematic graphical illustration of a maneuvering instruction at an intersection, the position geometry of the road segments and junctions associated with the intersection is analyzed and a schematic maneuvering view (11) is calculated. In order to illustrate the intersection, predefined illustration elements (01-08) are loaded from a database as a function of the result of the analysis, and/or illustration elements (?) that are individually dependent on the position geometry are calculated.
