  • Patent number: 11884019
Abstract: A method of encoding information in an object that may allow for enhanced tailorability of the encoding during the processing and/or also enhance the amount of information encoded in the object. More particularly, the method of encoding the object enables the magnetic characteristics at different spatial locations of the object to be modified to form a spatial array of the different magnetic characteristics for representing the encoded information. The method can be used to permanently embed a magnetic signature in a non-magnetic object, for example. More specifically, the method allows different portions of the object to exhibit different magnetic characteristics at each spatial location of the object in three dimensions, and more particularly configuring the magnetic vectors of those portions in many possible orientations with a 4n steradian solid angle and/or with different intensities.

  • Patent number: 11880006
Abstract: A packed sensor line array system includes sensors mounted outboard of cable packs wrapped around a central mandrel. The system may have multiple rows (layers) of the sensors and cable packs, surrounded by a cannister. • Patent number: 11880018
Abstract: An optical window for a hypersonic vehicle includes a window substrate and an optical coating on the window substrate, with the coating including multiple alternating layers of different materials. The coating may have many layers, for example having five or more alternating bi-layers and may be configured to still perform its optical function with some of the layers removed, such as by ablation of some of the layers through exposure to hypersonic flow. The different materials of the different layers may have different properties, for example with one of the materials being more resistant to ablation and/or chemical reaction than another of the layers. Coatings for anti-reflection additionally include a region of graded optical index between the sequence of bi-layers and the substrate. The hypersonic vehicle may include an optical sensor which operates by receiving light through the optical window.

  • Patent number: 11878807
Abstract: A highly adaptive seal for use in advanced aircraft propulsion and missile systems is provided. The seal is capable of effectively limiting invasive thermal energy and corrosive airflow from entering the internal systems and hardware of the aircraft by managing and controlling the incoming air flow. The seal is configured to be disposed between component parts of the aircraft and create a tortuous path for air flow. The seal maintains contact with the component parts between which it seals by allowing for significant radial and axial displacement freedom of the component parts. Accordingly, hot gas intrusion may be limited in a wide variety of dynamic environments and component displacement conditions. Limiting such hot gas intrusion has a substantial impact on component survivability over the course of free flight of an aircraft.

  • Patent number: 11879736
Abstract: Systems and methods for detecting degraded navigation sensors are based on a policy derived from a Partially Observable Markoff Decision Process (POMDP). Navigation parameters derived from the navigation sensors are provided to individual Kalman filters. A covariance of each of the filters is indicative of a probability of degradation of a sensor from which the navigation parameter is derived. Outputs of the Kalman filters are provided to a master filter. The master filter is compared to a criterion to determine whether there are indicia of a degraded sensor. If such an indicia are present, the Policy is consulted to determine which of the sensors are degraded. Consideration of degraded sensors when navigating a vehicle is inhibited.

  • Patent number: 11879503
Abstract: A stiff key provides rigid coupling between a pair of shafts, such as a motor shaft and a rotary position sensor. The key may have a main body and a protrusion from the main body, such as from a middle portion of the main body. • Patent number: 11879416
Abstract: A method of thrust vectoring a missile utilizing jet tabs is presented. Jet tabs are used to create lateral control moments on a missile by rotating tabs into the rocket exhaust plume and changing the thrust deflection angle. The method includes simultaneously rolling the missile during the thrust vector maneuver in order to reduce the maximum tab exposure to the rocket plume. The method enables aggressive pitchover maneuvers while reducing the risk of tab failure due to excessive exposure.

  • Patent number: 11879410
Abstract: A rocket motor for a gun-fired projectile is configured stiffen the burnable propellant in the rocket motor during burning and/or protect the rocket motor from the pressure that occurs during firing of the projectile from the gun. The rocket motor may include a rigid structure that is integrated into the burnable propellant grain to stabilize the burnable propellant grain during burning of the burnable propellant grain. The rigid structure has a matrix or truss-like shape that extends into the depth of the burnable propellant grain. The rocket motor may include a baffled end cap that covers a nozzle of the rocket motor. The end cap defines a baffled path through the end cap to dampen gas flow into the nozzle and prevent particles of the gun propellant from entering the rocket motor. A rocket motor may implement the rigid structure or the baffled end cap, or both structures.

  • Patent number: 11878801
Abstract: An aft pivot assembly includes a height adjustment mechanism integrated into a device for mounting a payload, to enable release of the payload. The aft pivot assembly releasably secures an aft portion of the payload, such a pod, store, ordinance, or fuel tank. The aft pivot assembly includes a shaft operable with the mount device and a release component, the shaft being rotatable about multiple shaft axes relative to the mount device so as to either minimize or eliminate carriage loads about the aft portion, while reacting jettison loads during a jettison event or phase. The rotation of the shaft about its shaft axes can further be limited via a limit device. As the payload transitions from a carriage phase to a jettison phase, the shaft moves in multiple degrees of freedom and in multiple axes relative to the mount device.
