  • Patent number: 4738151
Abstract: A drive connection between a drive pinion and a motor shaft. The motor shaft has a longitudinal axial bore into which is force-fitted a pinion shaft which is preferably integral with the pinion. The pinion shaft is shorter in length than the length of the bore in the motor shaft and connects with said motor shaft bore therebeyond to define a cavity between the end of the pinion shaft and the bottom of the bore when the shaft is fully fitted within the bore. A second bore extends from the surface of the motor shaft into the cavity area of such longitudinal bore and has a fitting associated therewith for the selective introduction of a fluid under pressure into the cavity to force the pinion shaft out of the bore for disconnecting the pinion from the motor shaft. In one embodiment, both the axial bore and the pinion shaft have a constant diameter. In another embodiment the longitudinal bore has a stepped diameter and the pinion shaft has a stepped diameter corresponding to the bore diameter.

  • Patent number: 4733146
Abstract: A system is disclosed for recovering and storing the energy generated by an electrical motor during deceleration so as to be available for use when the motor is subsequently accelerated. The system utilizes a capacitor for storing the energy produced by voltage regeneration of the motor when decelerating. A two-quadrant regulator, connected between a three-phase rectifier and a four-quadrant SCR regulator, controls the charging and discharging of the capacitor so that the energy stored therein is proportional to the energy required to accelerate the motor and load to the maximum rotational velocity required.

  • Patent number: 4730951
Abstract: This invention relates to a drive coupling for connecting an output shaft such as for a motor to an input pinion such as for a reducer. A coupling member which has an intermediate portion supported for rotation in bearings in a bracket which is mounted on a motor. The coupling member has one end portion in the form of a slotted sleeve which extends about the motor shaft and is clamped thereto by a clamping collar. The other end of the coupling member is provided with a bore for receiving a pinion shaft in a force-fit relationshp. The pinion shaft may be pinned to the coupling member by means of a spiral pin and the slotted sleeve may be keyed to the motor output shaft by means of a suitable slot and key arrangement.

  • Patent number: 4723455
Abstract: An electric motor changes the output speed of a mechanically-adjustable variable speed drive apparatus by controlled bi-directional rotation of a shifting screw engaged with a centerpiece assembly. In general, the dry traction apparatus may be either of the single disk or double disk type (including modifications thereof). The motor drive shaft is co-axially aligned and coupled with the shifting screw, and includes a particular thrust bearing arrangement which accepts axial thrust in either direction generated by rotational operation of such motor. A limit switch mechanism, including a spring-loaded limit switch actuation element, also automatically controls motor operation by responding to controlled shifting of the centerpiece element. A protective shear pin and a torque arm arrangement further facilitate co-axial coupling of the motor with the shifting screw.

  • Patent number: 4691290
Abstract: A digital scale compensated for creep by first obtaining and storing a mathematical representation of creep as a function of time for the particular scale. The current "creep state" of the scale is continually calculated, stored and used to correct the current weight indication for creep. The current creep state is obtained by calculating the increment of creep since the previous determination of creep state and combining it with the stored previous creep state.

  • Patent number: 4676670
Abstract: A bearing take-up frame including a base assembly having a top plate permanently, pivotally secured thereto at one end and removeably secured thereto at an opposite end. A bearing block assembly is received between the base assembly and the top plate for guided axial adjustment with respect thereto. End walls are secured to the base assembly and the top plate respectively, with a lower end wall defining a generally U-shaped slot. A threaded element is received in the U-shaped slot and held against axial movement, and has a transmission screw threadably received therethrough, an opposite end of which is secured to the bearing block. Rotation of the threaded element thus imparts movement to the bearing block. By releasing and pivoting the top wall upwardly, the bearing block, transmission screw and threaded element may be removed or installed.

  • Patent number: 4657097
Abstract: Load cells incorporating one or more gaged beams as the load sensing elements are compensated for off-center loading in the longitudinal and/or lateral directions. The load cell may also include one or more flexure arms extending parallel to the beam. The relative position of the gages and the neutral axis of the beam is made such that the gages produce a correctible response to off-set loading by positioning the gages and/or physically altering the beam. Preferably, conventional or special strain gages are mounted upon the beam(s) to produce a correctible response by the gages by rotating and/or displacing them with respect to the longitudinal axis of the beam. Resistors are then connected to certain of the strain gages to compensate for off-center loading. The strain gages are advantageously placed all on one side of a beam but may be placed on opposite sides thereof.

  • Patent number: 4648017
Abstract: A series resonant converter is interposed between an unregulated voltage source and an output circuit. The converter employs a pair of power switches each, when on, completing a series resonant circuit from the source to a resonant tank circuit including the primary winding of a transformer coupled to the output circuit. The power switches are alternately turned on and off so that sinusoidal current pulses alternately flow in opposite directions in the primary winding at a frequency dependent on input and output conditions. The current flowing in the resonant circuit is monitored and the power switches are additionally controlled to prevent turn on of one switch and turn off of the other when current is still flowing in the resonant circuit.

  • Patent number: 4631353
Abstract: A pedestal-type closure for use as a buried telephone cable terminal closure comprises a rear section and upper and lower front covers, each of which is formed from the same basic plastic extrusion. The covers and the rear section are secured in edge-to-edge relationship. The upper ends of the rear section and of the upper cover are formed with cooperating caps that form a venting structure for venting moisture from within the interior of the pedestal and which tend to form a barrier against the entrance of insects into the pedestal. The lower cover has a snap-on arrangement which facilitates assembly, and the rear section has spacers which facilitate mounting of the pedestal against a vertical surface, and wherein the spacers are difficult to dislodge from the pedestal, thereby inhibiting vandalism.
