  • Patent number: 4604888
Abstract: A clamp for electrical cables including a body portion of stamped metal. The body portion has two end walls extending at right angles to the base. At least a first pair of arms spaced intermediate along one edge of the base. The arms also extend outward at essentially right angles to the base such that they are parallel to the end walls. An arm and an associated end wall form a first channel. The movable jaw interfits below the arms and when tightened comes into compressive engagement with the cables in the channel.

  • Patent number: 4600066
Abstract: A scale plate with one or more load cell structures formed integrally therewith. Each load cell includes a flexure beam with strain sensing means mounted thereon and a fixed end merging with the plate. A support member has a free end and another end that is fixed to and merges with the other end of the beam. The load is applied between the plate and the support member. The support member permits the point of load application to be selected for improved output response of the load cell. A second flexure beam may be provided to counter any torsion effects on the first mentioned beam. The beam and support member are formed by cutting slots in the scale plate.

  • Patent number: 4595983
Abstract: A credit only paystation for allowing a user to place telephone calls therefrom without having to use coinage coins. The paystation includes a reader to read the users credit information which may be encoded on the magnetic stripe of a conventional credit card. The paystation uses a microcomputer to process the credit information and the dialing information entered by the user. The paystation also allows the user to dial a plurality of nonrestricted numbers without having to use a credit card. The paystation is powered solely from the central office to which it is connected and keeps the transmitter turned off until it is needed.

  • Patent number: 4587604
Abstract: A power supply is provided for supplying regulated power to an output from an unregulated DC voltage source. The supply includes low and high power series resonant converters, each including a pair of power switches which are alternately turned on and off for completing a series resonant circuit with the source and with a primary winding of a transformer coupled to the output. A switch control responds to loading of the output and drives the switches on and off at an operating frequency that varies with the loading. A converter control monitors the operating frequency and controls operation of the converters such that one or both converters operate in dependence upon loading to avoid operation within a particular frequency range.

  • Patent number: 4585141
Abstract: A locking system for a flood cover having a rigid mouth. The system has a pair of oppositely opposed locking mechanisms. Each leg mechanism includes a stiff leg portion whose length is greater than the air space that would result if the closure over which the cover is to be placed were centered in the cover. A spring holds the stiff leg essentially parallel to the mouth before the cover is placed over the closure. As the cover is placed over the closure the stiff leg pivots and the tension of the spring increases.

  • Patent number: 4584595
Abstract: A circuit arrangement for FETs connected in parallel. In the arrangement the same electrode of N FETs (N>1) is connected by associated metallic conductors to a central conductor. A further metallic conductor is also connected to the central conductor. The shape of the central conductor is such that the FETs are mechanically equidistant from the connection of the further conductor. This equalizes the fall times between the FETs without the need to add any physical inductors to the circuit.

  • Patent number: 4575265
Abstract: A seal for a bearing having a housing with an opening therein for receiving a shaft in which a bearing assembly is mounted in the housing and has an inner race for receiving the shaft. A seal consisting of a ring having a radially extending, outwardly facing flat surface is disposed in the housing opening adjacent the inner race, and a seal which may be of the V-ring type is mounted on the inner race and has a lip which seats on and rubs against the radial surface of the ring. Collars may be used on the race to retain the lipped seal in proper relationship with the ring on the inner race. The relationship of the lip to the metal ring is such that the bearing assembly can be purged by the outward flowing of the lubricant yet protected from the ingress of foreign matter. In some modifications, an auxiliary seal, which is disposed externally with respect to the lipped seal, may be used.

  • Patent number: 4574899
Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved scale arrangement comprising three or more load cells which are compensated for both lateral and longitudinal displacement of the load on the scale platter or platform and to a method of accurately compensating the scale so that the output of the scale is independent of the position of the weight on the scale. Only two strain gages are provided for each load cell which gages are connected in a single bridge circuit. Compensating resistor networks are connected to at least certain of the strain gages.

  • Patent number: 4566052
Abstract: Circuitry for use in a power supply of the type which includes a power switching means and uses a waveform of predetermined shape to control the power switching means such as in a first mode the supply regulates its output voltage and in a second mode controls the current in the power switching means. The circuitry attempts to turn the supply off in response to an overvoltage condition at its output and failing that provides a short circuit path so that current sufficient to cause the fuse in the output to open will flow therethrough.

  • Patent number: 4553335
Abstract: A shaft alignment device for use in aligning two opposed, rotatable shafts connected by a shaft coupling is disclosed, having magnetic base portions adaptable for mounting on the shafts, hubs, or on auxiliary structures secured to the shafts or hubs. The device includes fixed bracket members with pivotally mounted swivel blocks therein. Extension beams project across the coupling from each swivel block to a reference surface on the facing bracket, and measurement indicators measure the degree of deflection of the swivel blocks. A leveling device indicates the relative position of the alignment devices for taking measurements at 0.degree., 90.degree., 180.degree., and 270.degree., and the coordinates obtained are used to plot the aligned positions of the shafts.

  • Patent number: 4546322
Abstract: A demodulator for demodulating a received signal which has been modulated in accordance with a modulation scheme which falls within the class of APK modulation. The demodulator uses a phase locked loop (PLL) to recover the carrier. A ROM in the demodulator provides information in both the sweep and locked modes of operation of the PLL to control the PLL. The ROM also provides at its output the digital data which has been encoded at the modulator in accordance with the selected APK scheme. The information stored in the ROM is uniquely determined by the signal points associated with the selected scheme. A modulator for generating the modulated signal received by the demodulator is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4536170
Abstract: An elastomeric shear shaft coupling is disclosed for connecting two rotatable shafts in end-to-end relationship. The coupling includes hubs for mounting on the opposed ends of the shafts and a flexible element extending between the opposed hubs. Clamping members and suitable fasteners are used to secure the element to the hubs for transmitting the torque developed by the driving shaft to the driven shaft. The flexible element has a bead of harder material than the body of the element, disposed within or at the margins of the element in the locus of clamping, and is reinforced with a matrix of plies or layers of a suitable fabric material.

  • Patent number: 4534114
Abstract: A coupling alignment system for use in aligning coupled, rotatable shaft members. The system includes coupling hubs mounted on the opposed shafts and modified to receive bracket members. A pivotally mounted beam extends from one bracket member to the opposite bracket member or coupling hub, and a measurement indicator, mounted on the bracket member, registers the degree of deflection of the beam relative to the bracket or hub on the opposite side. No shaft access is required, since the brackets are secured directly to the coupling hubs, and the measurement indicator mass is firmly supported by the bracket, minimizing indicator sag. The present system includes angular, radial, and axial bracket mounting embodiments, the system, thereby, greatly facilitating alignment procedures in the field.

  • Patent number: 4525094
Abstract: A split, circular flanged bushing for securing driving or driven elements such as sheaves, pulleys, and the like to a rotatable shaft, having an integrally formed key in the center opening of the bushing for insertion in a corresponding keyway in the shaft. The bushing is formed in a sintering operation and increased density is imparted to fillets or junctions between the flange and the outer wall of the body, thereby providing increased resistance to stress fatigue in these critical areas. Fillets between the key and the inner wall of the body are provided to distribute the stress concentration inherent in these areas.
