Abstract: Systems and methods are described for receiving a first request, associated with a first user profile, to record a content item, and storing, at a server and based on the first request, a first copy of the content item, accessible via the first user profile. A second request to record the content item may be received, associated with a second user profile, and content consumption history associated with the second user profile may be identified. Based on such content consumption history, a determination may be made to refrain from storing a second copy of the content item based on the second request. In response to receiving a request, associated with the second user profile, to access the content item, the content item may be played at a device associated with the second user profile based on the stored first copy of the content item.

Abstract: Systems and methods for overlaying virtual objects in a virtual environment based on user interest and user interactions are disclosed. The methods analyze a live view of a surface viewed through camera or a transparent lens and determine if the policies of the surface allow overlaying of virtual objects. The method fetches a virtual object and calculates a score based on user interest, user gaze, and user engagement. Virtual objects that meet the policies of the surface and a scoring criterion are overlayed on the surface in the virtual environment and enhanced based on a plurality of enhancement factors. Virtual objects are also overlayed in frames of a live broadcast based on their scores. Virtual objects displayed on a conference call interface, which may be meeting tools or icons associated with other conferencing functionality, are enhanced, or removed from the user interface based on their utilization.

Abstract: Systems and methods for enhancing user experience in accessing media of a certain content type by outputting the media on a nearby device that is better suited for access. For example, a media guidance application may determine that a user is accessing, on his/her smartphone, a digital page (e.g., a website, a newsfeed, etc.) that features embedded content (e.g., photos, movies, music, etc.). In response to determining that the user has navigated to an embedded content, such as a video clip, the media guidance application may determine a device in the vicinity of the user that is better suited than the user's smartphone for playback of the video clip. For example, a nearby smart television may have a larger screen, better sound output, and a better display resolution than the smartphone. As a result, the media guidance application may cause the smart television to output the video clip.

Abstract: Systems and methods for receiving product data for products featured in a media asset are described. In some embodiments, the system includes control circuitry that receives from a server data for a plurality of products featured in a media asset. The control circuitry generates for display a list including the plurality of products. The control circuitry determines whether a product in the list is associated with a coupon and/or a preferred vendor. The control circuitry visually distinguishes the product from other products in the list in response to determining that the product is associated with a coupon and/or a preferred vendor.

Abstract: Methods and systems for saving resources when outputting a media asset such as a video are provided. The media asset is split into a first portion with a first importance and a second portion with the second importance. The first portion is displayed with a first set of output parameters (e.g., resolution, bit rate, frame rate, display size) and the second portion is displayed with a second set of output parameters that correspond to a lower quality than the first set of output parameters (e.g., a lower resolution, a lower bit rate, a lower frame rate, a lower display size).

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for generating content based on matching mappings by implementing deconstruction and reconstruction techniques. The system may retrieve a first content structure that includes a first object with a first mapping that includes a first list of attribute values. The system may then search content structures for a matching content structure having a second object with a second list of attributes and a second mapping including second attribute values corresponding to the second list of attributes. Upon finding a match, the system may generate a new content structure having the first object from the first content structure with the second mapping from the matching content structure. The system may then generate for output a new content segment based on the newly generated content structure.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for determining that a plurality of user profiles, stored in the memory, are associated with an account of a media application; generating for presentation a media asset during a first consumption session associated with the account; generating for presentation a selectable option to associate a current progress point of the media asset with one or more of the plurality of user profiles associated with the account; receiving a selection of one or more of the plurality of user profiles via the selectable option; during a second consumption session, receiving a request for accessing the media asset; and in response to determining that the second consumption session is associated with the selected one or more user profiles, resuming the media asset from the progress point associated with the selectable option.

Abstract: Systems and methods for determining, based on recommendations provided by users that have consumed a media asset, which consumption options may be configured on a media device such that when configured enhance the user viewing experience for a specific media asset. The method includes accessing comments posted by other users that have consumed the media asset. The comments are analyzed to determine a consumption option recommendation. If the number of comments meet a threshold value, then the system either automatically configures the media device or configures the media device upon user approval with the recommended consumption option. The recommendation to configure a consumption option on the media device is made only if the recommendation is supported by the media device. The system also detects through audio and image analysis which users are consuming the media asset and accordingly configures the consumption options to their preferences.

Abstract: A frequency of occurrence for each term in a training data set is determined in relation to the entire training data set. A relational data structure is generated that associates each term in the training data with its respective frequency. Any term that has a frequency below a threshold frequency is then added to a list of relevant words. When a natural language search query is received, a plurality of terms in the natural language search query are identified and compared with the list of relevant words. If any term of the natural language search query is included in the relevant words list, that term is identified as a keyword. The natural language search query is then interpreted based on any identified keywords.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for monitoring, detecting, and mitigating hardware and software failures. An error detection module monitors the execution of software processes and detects failures of the monitored processes. The error detection module may monitor reboot events and correlate reboot events with failures of the monitored software processes. If a monitored process fails, the error detection module may log the failure and its cause. If the same process has failed numerous times, causing the user device to experience a reboot loop, remedial action may be taken based on the cause of the failure.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for providing supplemental content to a group of users when the group of users is disinterested in content from a live content stream. When users are disinterested in a segment of the live content, the users will be provided with supplemental content to consume during the not interesting portion of the live content while other users that are viewing the live content will continue to receive the live content stream. After the segment of the live content is completed, the group of users will resume consumption of the live content stream.

Abstract: Systems and methods for encoding a video stream at multiple bit rates is disclosed herein. An encoder divides each frame of a video stream into a plurality of portions and allocates an available number of bits between the plurality of portions based on user preference information. Portions having one or more objects of interest to the viewer determined based on the user preference information are allocated a higher number of available bits while portions of the frames that do not include one or more objects of interest are allocated a minimum number of bits from the available bits.

Abstract: Systems and methods for determining emotional responses to videos, generating emotional arc based on the responses and reactions, and determining the type and/or point of insertion of secondary content based on the determined emotional responses are disclosed. The methods display primary content to a plurality of users and determine their emotional response as they consume the primary content. An average emotional arc is generated based on the determined emotional response and it is compared to a current emotional arc generated based on emotional response from a current user. When values of the current emotional are within a predefined range of the average emotional arc at a particular play position in the timeline of the primary content, a secondary content that is designated for the value of the current emotional arc is inserted in the primary content at the particular play position.

Abstract: Systems and methods for doing presenting an avatar that speaks sign language based on sentiment of a speaker is disclosed herein. A translation application running on a device receives a content item comprising a video and an audio, wherein the audio comprises a first plurality of spoken words in a first language. The video comprises a character speaking the first plurality of spoken words in the first language. The translation application translates the first plurality of spoken words of the first language into a first sign of a first sign language. The translation application determines an emotional state expressed by the character based on sentiment analysis. The translation application generates an avatar that speaks the first sign of the first sign language where the avatar exhibits the determined emotional state. The content item and the avatar are presented for display on the device.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described to detect a location to place an advertisement in a media asset, the method comprising, identifying a plurality of points in a video frame of a media asset, detecting a color associated with each point of the plurality of points, calculating a change in color between each point of the plurality of points, comparing the change in color between each point of the plurality of points with a threshold, identifying, based on the comparing, an area within the frame that constitutes a surface; and selecting an advertisement to be placed on the surface.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for generating for display, with a media asset, one or more preview images. If a preview image corresponding to an advanced play position, relative to a current play position, provides a spoiler, an alternative preview image is generated for display. The alternative image may be a modified version of the original image in which at least a portion is removed or masked, or a replacement image, e.g., an image from another play position, a promotional image, or an indication that the preview image is not displayed. A different alternative image or modification may be used when a subsequent play position has been reached if the unmodified preview image contains a different spoiler, and/or a previous modification is no longer required, e.g., if, at the subsequent play position, the original image is no longer a spoiler, the original image may be used as a preview image.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described to address shortcomings in conventional media systems via a novel technique to prevent corruption of a user's viewing profile. In some aspects, a user of an interactive media guidance application may select a media asset for viewing on a user device. The interactive media guidance application may receive a user viewing profile for the user from a remote server. If the media asset is determined to not be consistent with the user viewing profile, the interactive media guidance application may retrieve another user viewing profile for another user of the user device. If the media asset is determined to be consistent with the other user viewing profile, the interactive media guidance application may update the other user viewing profile based on the media asset.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for controlling a smart glass display based on environmental conditions. The smart glass display may be configured for presenting a media asset. Further, the smart glass display is configured with a transparent display function that adjusts the presentation of the media asset based on the environmental conditions. The smart glass display may identify environmental information and determine a hazard based on the environmental information. Further, a smart glass display may observe the user's eye movement and may execute a specific function corresponding to the user's eye movement.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described to address shortcomings in the conventional network storage systems via novel techniques to store offsets of a recorded program in a network digital video recorder (DVR). Storing offsets of a recorded program may be beneficial to users that would like to record media content that is broadcast either prior to a start time of a program, or media content that is broadcast after an end time of a program. This feature may be useful when start times and end times of a program are variable (e.g., in the case of sporting events, or other real-time events). This feature may also be useful for recording content of interest that is scheduled for broadcast prior to a start time of or after an end time of the program.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for adapting a second user input device to resemble a first user input device while preserving new functionalities not available in the first user input device. The systems and methods may identify, based on identifiers of the first and second user input devices, a first and second set of device functionalities provided by the devices. The systems and methods may compare the sets of device functionalities to determine a set of common device functionalities and, in response, modify the display of an input of the second user input device to correspond to visual attributes of an input of the first user input device.
