    Abstract: There is a provided a surface light source device comprising: a light source body having an inner space therein in which a discharge gas is contained; a plurality of electrodes formed on the light source body in such a manner as to electrically divide the inner space into at least three blocks and applying discharge voltages to the blocks; and a driving unit sequentially applying the discharge voltages to the blocks through the electrodes in synchronization with a video signal of an external display device. The light source body may have a plurality of discharge spaces or a single discharge space therein. In accordance with the present invention, the surface light source device sequentially applies the discharge voltages to the blocks, and thereby can reduce an after-image occurring in a liquid crystal display device.

    Abstract: The surface of a gallium nitride single crystal substrate is processed, e.g., comprising steps by planarizing the top side and the bottom side of a gallium nitride original substrate positioned on a support bed; radiating light having wavelengths ranging from 370 to 800 nanometers (nm) onto the planarized gallium nitride original substrate; measuring transmittance of the gallium nitride original substrate; and confirming whether the transmittance is within the range of 65 to 90%. A gallium nitride single crystal substrate obtained through the method of processing the surface has high transmittance ranging from 65 to 90% measured using light having wavelengths of 370 to 800 nm. The thickness ratio (DLa/DLb) of the damage layers on the both sides of the gallium nitride single crystal substrate can be obtained within the range of 0.99 to 1.01.

The black matrix is prepared by exposing a photoactive compound to form a latent pattern of nuclei for crystal growth and treating the latent pattern of nuclei for crystal growth with a metal salt solution to give a metal particle-deposited pattern; forming an electroless Ni-plated layer on the metal particle-deposited pattern; and forming an electroless Cu-plated layer on the electroless Ni-plated layer. Exhibiting improved black tone, which is achieved only by a selective multilayer plating process, without using expensive vacuum sputtering apparatus or a photolithographic process, the black matrix can be applied to various flat display devices. In addition, due to improved electric conductivity, the black matrix can be used in an electromagnetic interference filter, without employing an additional front surface blackening process.
