The helical portion of the spring has a loose fit in the thread when the nut is driven by the part, whereas the spring is contracted against the shaft when the end portion contacts one of the opposing surfaces of the nut and thereby brakes the rotation if the nut tends to be rotated by an axial load on the nut and the part is disconnected.
