  • Patent number: 4619284
Abstract: The pyrotechnic valve according to the invention comprises one or more pyrotechnic devices able to produce gases under a high pressure, which has the effect of suddenly deforming a membrane equipped with a rigid weight. The latter projects a punch, which shears a tight end fitting, thus freeing the fluid passage. The membrane ensures a perfect seal between the fluid circulation zone and the zone containing the gases produced by the pyrotechnic devices.

  • Patent number: 4619498
Abstract: A method and a device for suspending and driving into oscillation a space telescope oscillating mirror connected to a support whereby angular motions of the oscillating mirror around an oscillation axis are controlled from an auxiliary mass which is adapted to oscillate around said oscillation axis, and potential energy is momentaneously stored, for example in elastic form, when said oscillating mirror and said auxiliary mass come close in opposed phase to respective extreme angular positions. These oscillating mirror and auxiliary mass are preferably connected to the common support through flexible rods bound to said support. Dynamic oscillations in the support are thus minimized so as to allow precise observation in two neighboring directions, particularly for celestial scanning.

  • Patent number: 4605851
Abstract: The invention relates to a process and device for detecting foreign bodies in a liquid, wherein the image of the apparent surface of the liquid in rotation in the immobilized recipients is formed, by reflection, diffraction, refraction or attenuation of the light coming from a source, on a matrix of reception and read cells. In the matrix each cell is perfectly delimited and its position is identified by numerization. A series of images is produced, of which a certain number are taken as reference and memorized. Each image is digitized and those images following the last memorized image is compared therewith cell by cell by a subtractor. The results of such a subtraction are compared with a threshold and results overstepping the threshold involve delivering a signal to a processor which controls a sort device arranged to eliminate undesirable units.

  • Patent number: 4537374
Abstract: A structural support comprises inner and outer elements which are telescopingly engaged, a cage secured to the inner element and having apertures in which balls are disposed which are disposed radially between the two elements, and a frangible connection securing the two elements against relative axial movement. In the locked relative positions of the elements, the outer element has locally an increased internal diameter portion and the balls are radially disposed in this position or are moved into the portion on being subjected to an axial force which breaks the frangible connection, so that the relative axial movement of the elements results in the ball plastically deforming the outer element and absorbing energy from the force to protect the body carried by the support. The support can be used to provide a brace operating as a strut and/or a tie, or a shock absorber, or, by mounting a damping piston slidably in the inner tubular element can provide a shock absorbing piston and cylinder unit.

  • Patent number: 4529152
Abstract: The invention relates to devices for maneuvering helicopters on the deck of a ship. According to the invention, the helicopter, whose landing gear comprises at least one swivelling wheel, is maneuvered between a take-off and landing area and a garage area on the deck of a ship with the aid of a guide carriage, moving in a guide rail and connected to a fitting on the helicopter by a telescopic rod or a cable, as well as a guide bar engaged by a roller in the rail and hooked by a fork joint on the axle of the swivelling wheels of the helicopter. When the helicopter is displaced towards the garage area by traction on a towing cable hooked at the front of the helicopter on the rear of which is hooked a retaining cable maintained tensioned, the helicopter automatically and progressively aligns itself on the axis of the rail due to the guide bar. The invention is more particularly applicable to flight decks of ships, platforms, etc.
