  • Publication number: 20140220621
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for detecting and characterizing motion-related error of moving micro-entities are described. Motion-related error may occur in streams of moving micro-entities, and may represent a deviation in and expected arrival time or an uncertainty in position of a micro-entity. Motion-related error of micro-entities is observed in a flow cytometer, e.g., as pulse jitter, and is found to have a functional dependence on a parameter related to a system clock. The motion-related error may be characterized by correlating measurements of micro-entities moving within a fluid stream.

  • Publication number: 20140212917
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for detecting, characterizing, and compensating motion-related error of moving micro-entities are described. Motion-related error may occur in streams of moving micro-entities, and may represent a deviation in and expected arrival time or an uncertainty in position of a micro-entity within the stream. Motion-related error of micro-entities is observed in a flow cytometer, e.g., as pulse jitter, and is found to have a functional dependence on a parameter of the system. The pulse jitter can be compensated, according to one embodiment, by adjusting data acquisition observation windows. For the flow cytometer, a reduction of pulse jitter can improve measurement accuracy, resolution of doublets, system throughput, and enable an increase in an interrogation region for probing the micro-entities.

  • Patent number: 8792713
Abstract: One dimensional (1D) histograms, one for each row of an image, are determined simultaneously and in parallel with each other to achieve an O(1) time complexity, and are then added to determine a two dimensional (2D) histogram from which desired characteristic values such as median, minimum, and maximum can be determined exactly as opposed to merely being estimated. The characteristic value can be applied to the image to reduce noise or to achieve artistic effects in the image.

  • Patent number: 8683200
Abstract: A content server is provided for storing and distributing digital content to a client. The content server includes a content database configured to electronically store the digital content and a DRM packager for adding a universal DRM layer to the digital content stored at the content database. The universal DRM layer is able to access digital content in conformance with a plurality of different DRM implementations, the digital content being in conformance with one of the plurality of different DRM implementations. The universal DRM layer can access the content by a variety of means, such as with a universal key, for example, that can decrypt content from many different DRM technologies. In this way the client only needs to have a DRM controller that is compatible with this higher-level, universal DRM implementation rather than with the individual, underlying DRM implementations.

  • Publication number: 20130169953
Abstract: The various embodiments disclosed herein utilize multiple lasers that have different wavelengths and a single detection path. The lasers are mounted orthogonal to one another so that one laser will provide a forward angle light scatter (FALS) signal in the detection path, and one laser will provide a side scatter signal in the detection path (i.e., the single detection optics are approximately in-line with the FALS laser and approximately orthogonal to the side scatter laser). The single detector path spectrally separates the forward and side scatter signals prior to applying them to their respective detectors for measurement.

  • Patent number: 8165197
Abstract: Upscaling video data for presentation on a relatively high resolution display device is described. Supplemental video data corresponding to video data is accessed and acquired in response to a request to upscale the video data. The video data and the supplemental video data are combined to produce a combined video data for displaying particular video content on a destination display device at a resolution that is high relative to the local display device. Digital rights management information may be verified prior to producing the combined video data, and additional digital rights information may be applied prior to transmitting the combined video data to the destination display device. A device registration database may also be used to control production and transmission of the upscaled video to other devices.
